Rose Nyamunga Ogendo

A niece of the late Robert Ouko, she was interested in politics in 1992. She recalls how she realized where her fate was in 1990s, when she followed her family discussions on political developments in the country. She used to follow keenly political activists like Paul Muite and James Orengo since she had an interest in people’s rights and justice. She gained experience in developing a solid manifesto and campaign structure during the campaigns of her husband Eric Nyamunga, former Nyando MP. In her manifesto, she promised economic empowerment for the youth and women, adult education for women, mentorship for girls and sports opportunities in the county.

  • 14 Apr 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I also stand to say one or two things on what happened to the late Mr. Onyango. From what I understand, he was a senior member of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). From where I sit, I have heard several explanations going round. We do not even know exactly what happened. We are not sure if he died of COVID-19. It was done in an inhumane way, and it was so difficult for us who are not even relatives. It is important for us, as Kenyans, to know that COVID-19 is with us and it ... view

  • 31 Mar 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, if we do not put in place and understand how any information or support is going to reach the rural poor, then we will not be doing justice to this nation. Secondly, apart from the rural poor even the urban poor, we need to make sure that people who are mostly affected –because some of us may have food in our stores –are the ones who live from hand to mouth and must go to work which is very critical. We must take care of these people. view
  • 31 Mar 2020 in Senate: Lastly, you know very well that apart from the COVID-19 we have the floods that have occurred in Kenya and many people have suffered more so from Kisumu and Busia Counties. These are counties which are suffering right now. If you combine the COVID- 19 together with the floods where people have been displaced and there is suffering in some specific rural areas in this Republic. view
  • 31 Mar 2020 in Senate: I would like to urge the Ministry of Devolution and the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands(ASALs) and the Ministry of Health that much as we want to concentrate on the COVID-19 pandemic it is important that we extend a critical hand to people affected by the floods. The roads have been broken, people have been displaced and it is a sad state of affairs. view
  • 31 Mar 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I support everything, even the money donated by the Senate to take care of the pandemic. However, how is it going to reach people in rural areas? How is it going to be spent? Is it going to be used for the intended purpose or as usual, it will go to a few hands and the right people are not going to benefit. I thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. view
  • 10 Mar 2020 in Senate: Thank you Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity. I beg to give notice of the following Motion - AWARE THAT in 2006, the national Government initiated the Older Persons Cash Transfer (OPCT) Programme, popularly known as view
