Rose Nyamunga Ogendo

A niece of the late Robert Ouko, she was interested in politics in 1992. She recalls how she realized where her fate was in 1990s, when she followed her family discussions on political developments in the country. She used to follow keenly political activists like Paul Muite and James Orengo since she had an interest in people’s rights and justice. She gained experience in developing a solid manifesto and campaign structure during the campaigns of her husband Eric Nyamunga, former Nyando MP. In her manifesto, she promised economic empowerment for the youth and women, adult education for women, mentorship for girls and sports opportunities in the county.

  • 11 Jan 2022 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to support this amendment Bill by Sen. Shiyonga. I support this Bill because it is timely and important that this amendment is made. I believe it will pass in this House. I support because we know that health is a devolved function. Once you devolve a function, it is also important that you give it the authority that it requires for it to function properly. Health is very critical for the development of any nation. If people are sick, there is nothing that can happen. Even economic development cannot take place. We cannot take one ... view

Allow me to start by defining disability as restrictions in the types of activities and social participation that an individual can perform as a result of physical or mental impairment or conditions of longstanding duration within an environment that does not provide sufficient accommodation to facilitate participation. view
  • 11 Nov 2021 in Senate: The social model of disability focuses on the social context in which disablement occurs and identifies disability as the product of social disadvantage and exclusion. The purpose of this narrative is to highlight the malfunction nature of disability among people with SCD, which includes physical, psychological and social dimensions. Mr. Speaker, Sir, SCD is caused by a disorder in the hemoglobin component of blood, leading to abnormal sickle hemoglobin. Individuals with SCD exhibit significant morbidity and mortality rates. About 240,000 children in Africa are born each year with SCD, while here in Kenya, it is estimated that 6,000 children are ... view
  • 11 Nov 2021 in Senate: In the Lake Region, it is estimated that about 17 per cent of the children are carriers of the trait, with 0.6 per cent having SCD, while in the Coastal Region, using inpatient data, almost 1 per cent of in-patient children have SCD and are almost 20 times likely to die compared to admissions of other morbidities. Sickle cell anemia requires treatment, medication and hospital stays. By the time SCD gets to a high level of severity to the extent of preventing the individual from working, it often leads to financial strain for both the individual and the family. Since ... view
