  • 3 Aug 2016 in National Assembly: We have seen schools being burnt. We have put a lot of emphasis on education. We have also put a lot of pressure on our teachers to perform. We want to appreciate the institutions which are doing very well in co-curricular activities because learning is not all about education and passing in examinations. We want to note the schools which do well in drama festivals, sports and other activities. view

  • 20 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I appreciate the House for allowing our children to come here and have a first-hand experience of the National Assembly. At this juncture, I also want to recognize the presence of Kariguini Primary School from Kandara Constituency which is also in my county. As I welcome them to this big House--- view
  • 20 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I am the Chair of the Departmental Committee on Education, Research and Technology. I have been bitten by the excitement bug over the presence of these children. When some of us were being brought up, we did not have a chance to come to Parliament. Even as we talk about privileges, I would like to sincerely thank this House for allowing young children to access Parliament to see how we do The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 20 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Allow me to contribute towards the County Assembly Powers and Privileges Bill. From the outset, I support this Bill. It is important that Members of any House, whether it is the Senate, the National Assembly or the county assembly, have procedures and their own privileges. Our county assemblies have come from far. Some of them did not even have a place to conduct their sittings. Some of them did not even have proper regulations. Looking at the Order Paper, I can see the Senate has finally realized its mandate of helping and overseeing the ... view
  • 28 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I wanted to confirm to this House that Hon. Nyokabi, Hon. Alice Wahome, Hon. Sonia, Hon. Amina and I are ladies. There is a Member, who has left, who asked where the ladies are. In the morning when I checked, I was intact and my gender had not changed. I just wanted to confirm that there are ladies in this House. view
  • 27 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this Motion. I support this Motion. I was given an opportunity to be part of the team that made it. This House should consider changing the Standing Orders to enable Departmental Committee Chairpersons to sit in the Budget and Appropriations Committee. We got an opportunity to defend our positions and interrogate what other Ministries are doing. I noted that a lot of money was reduced from the prior Budget. The question that arose is whether the big amounts of money that we budget for are necessary. ... view
  • 27 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: I am very proud of the Supplementary Budget. We managed to cater for Kshs1.5 billion for the retired teachers. This House adopted a Report from the Departmental Committee on Education, Research and Technology in concurrence that the retired teachers should be considered. I want to sincerely thank the Jubilee Government for remembering the retired teachers who have been suffering since 1997. We have Kshs1.5 billion in the Supplementary Budget for the retired teachers and we will allocate more money to them in the next financial year. A lot of them are old and others have passed on. This money might ... view
  • 27 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: taxman cannot afford it. We cannot afford to increase more burdens to Kenyans. Children who are being born in this country cannot afford to come into a country which has many debts. We have enough resources in this country and we can plan and have a proper Budget. We do not even require the Supplementary Budget or we can consider it only when it is necessary. As I support, I encourage Members, especially the ones at the Committee level, to interrogate the Supplementary Budget, so that we can do justice to the budget process. view
