  • 4 Dec 2024 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. It is quite curious the number of Statements that have been brought by my colleagues and yet it is the final week of sitting. I wanted to raise a concern. The majority of the Statements that have been raised have been directed at the Standing Committee on Roads and Transportation. I have counted no less than seven such Statements. At our last meeting, we had almost 30 or 50 Statements that are still pending. There is a conversation we had with the Senate Majority Leader at least during the Senate Business Committee (SBC) on what ... view
  • 4 Dec 2024 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, it would be quite unfair because I know there is a discussion about reconstituting the committees. I have indicated that I would want to leave some of those committees. However, I feel it is very unfair for the people or the members who will be joining those committees to be inundated with all these Statements. I do not know if it is possible but we wanted to request your office; at least for us in the Standing Committee on Roads and Transportation to be facilitated during the long break to make sure that we clear all the ... view
  • 4 Dec 2024 in National Assembly: When we hand over to the new team that is coming into that Committee, at least we will not leave them with matters that have been pending all this time. It is also an indicator of the state of the roads in this country. I said during the debate on the President's Speech that we had an occasion in the Standing Committee on Energy to have a conversation with the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Roads, Transport and Housing--- view
  • 4 Dec 2024 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, we need to deal with two issues: First, I am happy that on the Order Paper today we have CARB. We need to dispense with this so that we can release money to counties. Every time we raise questions about roads in our counties, the governors say they do not have money. Then the second issue is the dispute of the RMLF. If there is anything as a House, we can do to help unlock the stalemate existing between the National Assembly and the Council of Governors (CoG), we should avail ourselves to help resolve that issue. ... view
  • 3 Dec 2024 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, allow me to take one minute to congratulate the Namibian team on the successful election they held this November. They have their first woman president, something that we, in Kenya, are still struggling with. You also know that there were elections in the USA. I had occasion to visit the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. I want also to take this opportunity to welcome the team from the USA. Lastly, because I attended elections as an observer in Somaliland, I want to speak to the statement by the Senator for Meru to let him know that, in ... view
  • 26 Nov 2024 in Senate: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Speaker Sir. I would like to join the Senator for Migori in welcoming both the delegation from Migori County and the team from Strathmore University here in Nairobi. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, when Sen. Eddy was speaking, I was wondering whether the Chairperson of the boda boda is the one who is a bad teacher or whether the Senator is a bad student. This is because by the time somebody you are educating suffers such an injury, there should be a problem somewhere. It is a best day for both teams to be in the Senate ... view
  • 26 Nov 2024 in Senate: of moulding young people to become the great citizens that we expect to be able to move our country forward. We continue to wish you the best in the work that you are doing at the university. Additionally, during this period that you are touring Parliament, we hope that you can pick up one or two things that will help you in your respective careers and whatever dreams and aspirations that you have. May they come true, in Jesus' name, do not say amen. Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. view
  • 26 Nov 2024 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, you know my position on the State of the Nation Address. I have always held the position that the State of the Nation Address is the state of the people and that I do not trust the current President to paint the true picture of the state of the people. Again, this year, because of that doubt in my mind, I chose to not attend the State of the Nation Address. There is usually a disconnect when you listen to the President; that is between his words and actions of his Government. Some of us have ... view
  • 26 Nov 2024 in Senate: That is where I want to begin. The President could as well have been describing me. We are who we are. We believe in this democracy, we will fight for it and there is nothing anyone can do about it. The question in my mind is whether the President believes in the words that he spoke. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, another thing that he said that sounded like music to ears of the people who believe in democracy and participation of the people is that he had learned through the hard as well as customary ways that listening is a ... view
  • 26 Nov 2024 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, of course, as I expected, he spent a considerable amount of time looking back to the situation that he inherited when he came into power. In my previous debate on his Address last year, we said we want to encourage this administration to be forward looking. Yes, we understand the situation that was obtaining in September, 2022. However, you are halfway through your presidency, Mr. President. You cannot still be talking about the war in Ukraine and the strictures of supply chain out of the war. We want you to move forward. At this point in ... view
