  • 5 May 2020 in Senate: I also agree with the other Senator who said that, maybe, we should go out there. Sometimes, it helps. As much as we may not see the benefit or a resolution immediately, it helps to show that even though COVID-19 is around, we have not suspended our oversight role. view

On cash transfers, that is a very important direction to go because, as we know, if the numbers increase and there is need to put a larger population in the country under quarantine; to lock down different towns or cities, then we are truly going to be forced with the issue of providing for those who are not able to provide for themselves in the course of that specific time. That would provide us to know who are really our vulnerable population such that when we have cash transfers, it will go to those who really need it. Clearly, the issue of food will come into play, be it providing for those who are not able to provide for themselves, they are just having a shortage as the market forces lead to commodities becoming fewer than the need of the population.
