  • 2 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me an opportunity to contribute to this very important Motion. I want to agree with other Members on the seriousness of the issues, of hunger and famine in this country. I am also very happy with the way the Minister spoke in support of this Motion. I am very grateful for the fact that the CDF Act allows us to spend at least 10 per cent of the money to support children in secondary schools. In my constituency, most of this money goes to support orphans. Mr. Temporary Deputy ... view
  • 1 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this Motion. I want to join hon. Members in congratulating the Minister for the way he has moved the Motion and also for the on-going campaigns to plant trees in the capital city. It is particulary very good to see trees being planted on road reserves because, in the past, the habit in Nairobi and in many other places in the countryside, has been to clear off any trees along the road serves. These trees are not only beautiful, but they also stabilise the roads ... view
  • 1 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to say something about the management of water catchment areas. The Minister knows that all the water that comes into this City comes from the Aberdares Forest. It is very important that the Ministry be concerned about the management of the Aberdares water catchment. I think that it ought to be concerned about rehabilitation of the forest. They need to realise that de-forestation or establishment of commercial plantations of exotic species in the Aberdares Forest contributes negatively to the capacity of the mountain to sustain August 1, 2006 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 2497 water. So, ... view
  • 19 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity to contribute to the debate on this Motion. I want to congratulate hon. Midiwo for bringing this Motion to the House. It is long overdue. Perhaps, one reason why we have not brought a Motion like this one to the House before is the fact we have always perceived ourselves as consumers of goods that we do not produce. Therefore, we depend on other countries to control the quality of the goods that we consume. We are also beginning to manufacture goods and it is very important that ... view
  • 19 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: ". I pray for a day when the Kenya Bureau of Standards is so upright, so incorruptible. With those remarks, I beg to support. view
  • 18 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, well, let me think of a better word but it does not make sense. view
  • 18 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources is charged with the responsibility of managing natural resources. One of the most important natural resources in this country is our soil. The other resource is water and so it does not make sense to see the Ministry of Roads and Public Works clearing bushes which leads to loss of both water and soil. I know this is something that may not have crossed the Ministry of Roads and Public Works because it does not perceive itself as being responsible for the road reserves but I think it ... view
  • 5 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me an opportunity to contribute on this Motion. I would like to thank Mr. Oloo-Aringo for bringing this Motion to the House because anything that will help our people to access financial resources in this country is extremely important. As was mentioned by Mr. Angwenyi, most of our people; 56 per cent, are poor. We all know that banks do not bother about poor people. As a result, a large number of our people is in the periphery of the banking system in our country. Nevertheless, it always amazes me that the ... view
  • 5 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: I just want to say that the Kenya Women Finance Trust directors were proud of the fact that 98 per cent of their loanees repaid their loans in time. This was not because they were women but because they were disciplined. They were honest, accountable and honoured their responsibility to the bank. With those few remarks, I beg to support. view
  • 5 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I thank Capt. Nakitare for giving me the honour to second the Motion. However, I cannot second the Motion. Instead, I would like to move an amendment to the Motion. view
