  • 7 Dec 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I think it is good for me to say this! I had to lend him my car and today, he can afford to hire a plane. view
  • 29 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I rise to seek the Chair's ruling on an issue that is very central to the operations of this House. In the past, as the Official Opposition, we asked for the Speaker's ruling on the appointment of Members of the Official Opposition into Government. The Government did not stop there. Today in this country, the Government, through the Office of the Registrar of Societies, is purporting to appoint the Leader of the Official Opposition. I rise to seek your ruling because in 2003 we met as Members of Parliament of the ... view
  • 29 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: We also elected hon. Justin Muturi as the Whip of the Official Opposition. Today, in this country, there are people masquerading in the public domain as having taken over those offices. I think it is in good order if you can inform the public for the avoidance of doubt that the position as obtaining in this House and as per the elections in 2003 cannot be changed by a Government that purports to appoint the leadership of the Official Opposition that is deemed to be user-friendly. view
  • 9 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, while we appreciate the argument by the Minister, I do not know why there is a hurry to allow the Commissioner to come up with laws on behalf of Kenyans when we can do so. A year is not too long. Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, in fact, we, as a country, should be working towards making food affordable and not anticipating incidents where Kenyans will be paying more to eat. view
  • 9 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I also want to reiterate that we would, really, want to pass into law, matters that affect the people of this country positively. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, therefore, I would like to ask the Minister and the Government to bring back to this House the issues that were rejected by hon. Members this afternoon, particularly the amendments to the Insurance Act, among many other matters. I hope that the Minister will take it kindly. I would like the Government to take it positively and bring those matters back to this House, so that we ... view
  • 7 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, what plans does the Ministry have to address this perennial problem? We have schools that have been evicted by persons allocated land illegally or legally. We even have a case of Kipsombe Primary School in my constituency where we have put close to Kshs1.5 million from the CDF. This problem is rampant across the country. What plans does the Ministry have to secure schools from all manner of allocations and therefore causing schools to be closed by persons who have been allocated land by whatever means? view
  • 11 Apr 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, like my colleagues, I send my condolences to our departed colleagues and other Government officials. On behalf of the Official Opposition party, KANU, I wish to send our heartfelt condolences to the families, constituents and the country for the deaths of our departed colleagues and Government officials. Those people were on a very important national duty. There mission was to harmonise the people of Kenya and give peace a chance in North Eastern Province. That has been an issue for a very long time. Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is my hope that deaths of my colleagues will ... view
  • 5 Apr 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity. I want to agree with the sentiments already expressed by my colleagues. I want to agree with the President that we are a country of diverse cultures, languages and religions, but we have a common bond as Kenyans. That is what makes our country great. Those statements coming from the President are, indeed, wonderful. The President continues to say:- "Let the people of Kenya judge leadership on the basis of positive direction and development that a leader is bringing to the people and not empty propaganda aimed at creating ... view
  • 5 Apr 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, the President mentioned the police force. As we are talking today, the police force is in a state of confusion. We seem to have several commands in the police force. This country is being ravaged by characters called mercenaries and all manner of human beings, threatening the Commissioner of Police with dogs and every Kenyan with dire consequences. How can we, as a country, entertain characters who come to our country and give them VIP treatment to insult our country? These characters went ahead and said that this country cannot afford to hire them. Who ... view
