I also would like to applaud the President’s contribution in terms of health and the major achievements we have made under difficult conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic. I must say here we saw our ability to do things for ourselves, to be independent, develop and meet the challenges of this particular crisis. The merger is also informed by the intention to streamline effectiveness of the two institutions and cut costs for the taxpayer’s used in operation of the two institutions. Therefore, we will be running one institution rather than two. In 2011, Parliament restructured the Kenya National Human Rights and Equality Commission into three commissions. The functions of the National Gender and Equality Commission are stated to fall within the sphere of human rights.
