  • 23 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I wanted to bring up the issue of the demolitions that were done in my constituency yesterday. They are continuing today. You remember that you asked the Minister concerned to make a Ministerial Statement on the demolitions. More people have been displaced. There is more suffering and pain in the streets of Eastleigh South. I wanted the Minister responsible to respond to the issue of demolitions, and to the request that the demolitions should be suspended as investigations are being carried out by one of this House’s Committees, so as to allow ... view

  • 22 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like to bring to your attention the massive demolition exercise which is taking place in Eastleigh South in an area adjacent to the Eastleigh Air Force Base in my constituency. Many high rise buildings have been razed to the ground; thousands of people made homeless and millions lost in property and household belongings. Besides, many of the tenants who were at work when the demolitions began had no security or protection and many of their belongings have been looted and they have lost everything. view
  • 22 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the exercise is being carried out in a brutal, inhumane and undignified manner. It is not something that you see in a democratic society. view
  • 22 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: These are buildings that were approved and built by the permission of the Nairobi City Council (NCC) and all the landlords have paid their taxes to date. Is it right that the Government undertakes demolitions when already there is a House Committee investigating the issue of demolitions? view
  • 22 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, through you, I would like to call upon the Government to suspend the demolitions in Eastleigh, out of respect for this House, until the House Committee finishes investigations. view

  • 16 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: asked the Minister of State for Provincial Administration and Internal Security:- (a) whether he is aware that cases of armed robberies, violent attacks, gang activities and muggings have doubled in Kamukunji Constituency in the recent past; (b) what the police are doing to deal with the escalating crime and protect residents of the constituency; and, (c) whether he could consider increasing police posts, police patrols and visibility in the constituency, especially in the most affected areas of Eastleigh, Pumwani and Muthurwa. view
  • 16 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Assistant Minister has now suggested that this police post is in Eastleigh Section II. Now, Eastleigh Section III is not the area I was referring to in my Question. I asked him about Eastleigh North which is one of the largest commercial centers in Nairobi and in which half a million people go shopping every day. It is Eastleigh North that has the problem of criminals. It is, indeed, affected by criminal activities. When he says that Pangani Police Station has been upgraded, Pangani Police Station is not in my constituency! In fact, it is ... view
