  • 27 Apr 2022 in National Assembly: I am a life Member of Maendeleo ya Wanawake . Women of this country are proud of President Kibaki because he supported them and Maendeleo ya Wanawake. We are mourning the loss of our President. He introduced free primary education. Children who would never have gone to school had an opportunity, for the first time, to access education and see a classroom, courtesy of our third President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Mwai Kibaki. I saw a super highway, for the first time, during his time. He constructed the Thika Super Highway. We must give credit where it ... view

  • 21 Dec 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Deputy Speaker, for considering gender in this discussion. I support the appointment of these members, Caroline and Thomas, as commissioners to the National Gender and Equality Commission. My lady colleagues and especially many of us who come from the women’s movements that brought us to this House will know the history of the National Gender and Equality Commission. It is good that we are seeing actually the commission mainstream, itself and find space in this country to continue to monitor, facilitate and to mainstream gender and disability and other issues, including the minority in this ... view
  • 21 Dec 2021 in National Assembly: National Commission on Human Rights and the Commission on Administrative Justice. This is because in this country, any time there is need to reduce the budget, you find that it goes to the national gender issues. It is not fair. We must give the National Gender and Equality Commission the teeth to do its work and to continue empowering our women, minorities and people like that in this country. I support the appointments. Thank you. view
  • 21 Dec 2021 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, I take this opportunity to thank the Chairman. I want to contribute as a member of the Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity. I support the nominee. As we look at the Report, we can clearly see that the nominee not only meets the requirements, but that all the procedures were followed. As a member of the Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity, we have had a chance to not only do audit, but also listen to the views that are reflected by various persons who look at how we continue to evolve as a ... view
  • 21 Dec 2021 in National Assembly: I support the Motion but ask that we look more at the spirit of the law because from where I sit on the National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity Committee, we at times seem to be losing it. view
  • 16 Nov 2021 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I beg to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs and Special Programmes the following Question: (i) Could the Cabinet Secretary explain the status of construction of the Nguruna Gender Based Violence and Women Centre in Nyabasi East Ward, Kuria East Constituency, Migori County? (ii) Could the Cabinet Secretary provide a breakdown of the total cost of construction of the said Centre, names of contractor(s), and how much has been paid to the contractor to date? (iii) When is the Centre expected to be completed? view
  • 16 Nov 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Indeed, as we look at how we want to ensure that we can make a difference when we discuss issues of gender, it is clear that to a large extent, those issues are due to lack of proper ways of engagement and recognition. As we talk about gender, it is not that it is an area that people do not realise that it needs to be addressed, but it is just the institutional mechanisms that tend not to be as prepared or as engaged with those that are charged with the responsibility of oversight. ... view
