  • 25 May 2023 in Senate: that kind of a discussion. What made me want to comment is because I know this House has Members of the Committee on Health. If you read Schedule Four of our Constitution, health is a devolved function. My biggest concern is that the country is having a conversation about health without the voice of the Senate. I wish to challenge our colleagues who serve in the Committee on Health, either by way of Statement or whatever proposal they want to give this House, to at least be part of this conversation. These are the opportunities that we continue to miss ... view

  • 25 May 2023 in Senate: because we can gain from his experience as a former Governor. He can encourage us to know many of these things. I request that Committee to help us appreciate this issue and guide the House. That way, we will know about the on-going conversation, the facts that have so far been laid out and the interventions the Senate can propose, so that the country appreciates us. We should stop hearing cases such as what Sen. Joe Nyutu has placed before the House. view
  • 4 May 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. On behalf of the senate, I would like to welcome the visiting interns from the Institute of Economic Affairs, one of the most distinguished and decorated think tanks that we have in this Republic. Mr. Speaker, Sir, you will struggle to find their peers, both locally, regionally and even globally. Despite the fact that they may not have the stature in terms of a brand of the global think tanks that have been in existence for many years more them, I know for a fact, that the IEA Kenya is one institution that has done ... view

  • 4 May 2023 in Senate: with the direction that the Government was taking. They would give substantive reasoning behind their points of departure. There are not many such institutions in our country. Mr. Speaker, Sir, for us to get a visit by these distinguished members, who work in that particular institution, is a great honour. I believe that in the course of their visit, they will interact with the various Committees of the House, see the Session this afternoon and appreciate the workings of the Parliament outside the Committees, where most of the time we meet members of the Institute of Economic Affairs in Kenya. ... view
  • 3 May 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I have a question to the Cabinet Secretary (CS), but I am now further guided by the answer she has just given and that is in order. Given that this question arose out of a supplementary question, it is not expected that we will get the answers to the questions we are asking for. Therefore, we need to establish a mechanism through which CSs can furnish the House with those additional answers, just as what Senators are doing this morning, seeking for additional information from a CS appearing here. Listening to the questions by colleague ... view

  • 3 May 2023 in Senate: Secondly and most importantly, is to get data. There is an alliance or an association of hoteliers from the Coast who can furnish the Ministry with the number of cancellations they have received so far. That information needs to be provided to this House. The same can be got from the airlines because there are around six airlines that fly to the coastal city of Mombasa and Malindi and how many have experienced cancellations as well. Mr. Speaker, Sir, if the CS can give the commitment and assure the House that she will furnish that subsequent information to us, then ... view
