  • 16 Oct 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Mahatma Gandhi told us that: “The true measure of any society is how it treats its most vulnerable.” Unfortunately, it is becoming the order of the day, more so, with the present administration, where such vulnerable members of the society are being evicted from forests and places of disputed land ownership. Consequently, they are dumped on the streets without any due consideration to human rights and property rights. They are also subjected to all forms of violation. If the Government is owned by the people, how can it kick out its owners? view
  • 16 Oct 2018 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, a time has come for a Committee of this House to keenly look into this eviction business from Laikipia to the very infamous eviction that has got us into very heated debate in this House – the Mau Forest issue. There are also many other evictions that are being carried out by a Minister who is not very keen on finding solutions, but just appearing as if they are working. It cannot be considered that you are working as a Minister when you are dumping citizens of this country by the roadside. Until you propose a ... view
  • 16 Oct 2018 in Senate: Therefore, I want to urge and humbly request the Committee that will be charged with this issue to sanction those people. Those who have approved these heinous acts need to be brought to book. view

  • 11 Oct 2018 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I was almost confused, thinking that it might be the other Committee, but I have remembered that it is this one of the House and not the one for the bridges. view
  • 11 Oct 2018 in Senate: In conclusion, it is good that Sen. Orengo has given us his assurance. This is because I was worried that perhaps our colleague, Sen. Were – especially because she is not here today – might be somewhere grumbling and feeling bad about it. However, if it was a coalition decision, we rest it at that, because you have given us your assurance. Otherwise, I was getting afraid and saying that, if this is how your side of the House treats power, what would happen, had you accessed the real power, like the one on this side? view
  • 11 Oct 2018 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I join my colleagues in sharing and passing our condolences to the families. As the people of Kericho, we feel sad about the issue especially in light of the fact that it happened in our county. That is a road that I am too familiar with. I use it almost every weekend, including the previous one. On every occasion you drive down the road, you can see that it is a deathtrap or disaster waiting to happen yet the authorities and those who are supposed to take decisions, including us as Senators and legislators are doing ... view
  • 9 Oct 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I want to reply wisely now that very good diction is being introduced into this Chamber this afternoon, with glowing tributes to the Chair. Unfortunately, he is not in the mood to receive them. I sincerely thank my colleagues. I have sat here the whole afternoon and also Thursday last week when I first moved this Bill at about 4.00 p.m., and through to 6.30 The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only.
