  • 14 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I was throwing a challenge to this House. I want us to borrow from the US experience. Congress rallied around President Bush notwithstanding political affiliations. I want to challenge this House: Let us rally around the Commander-In-Chief. However, let me also challenge the Commander-In-Chief: Come to this House with some very bold measures which can enable us to hand you full authority to deploy the full arsenal of the Commander-In- Chief, including zone declaration of state of emergency. We can zone this country and identify places that must be placed under special attention and ... view
  • 24 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. First, let me start by telling my honourable colleagues that this is one of those fundamental and historic Motions, where it is important to completely put aside our political party affiliations, and for once look at this matter and prosecute it on its merit. Therefore, the contribution I make to this Motion has absolutely nothing to do with whatever political affiliation you may associate me with. This is a House of honour and that is why we are called honourable Members. This is a distinguished House and that is why we call it the august ... view
  • 24 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: and decide to make a difference, then we will not make a difference. We will continue to engage in blame game after blame game. Therefore, we must acknowledge that there is a problem and we have to confront that problem. On December 18th 2014 tnere was an issue which we cannot run away from. For me, as I have said, I am willing and ready to say I am guilty as charged. What about you? I sat in the Tenth Parliament, perhaps one of the most divided Houses we will ever see, a House that had just emerged out of ... view
  • 24 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: was right. I do not stand here to be an advocate for the Speaker, but I stand here to defend the honour of this House. view
  • 18 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Let me join my colleagues in supporting the Motion. view
  • 18 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for acknowledging that. That is, indeed, a tradition across the Commonwealth and all Parliaments in the world. Let me join my colleagues in this House in supporting the Motion for this House to approve the nomination of Major General (Rtd) Lucas Tumbo as our ambassador to the Federal Republic of Somalia. I want to say two things. One, that this should open the avenue not only of appointing an envoy to this important neighbour, but to establish full diplomatic presence in Somalia. It is, indeed, my hope and prayer that after Major General (Rtd) ... view
  • 18 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: There is also the humanitarian angle. I agree that a lot of the humanitarian issues that are transported across the border from Somalia to Kenya are absolutely unnecessary and these are issues that could be dealt with very effectively if we had a fully-fledged presence. Whatever assistance or support we wish to give as a nation could be extended to our brothers and sisters in Somalia within Somalia itself. view
  • 18 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, the second issue has to do with this age thing. I do not want to call it misguided because you may rule me out of order for using that word. I do not know whether that word is parliamentary or not. However, there is a skewed view--- Let me make it very clear that I support the empowerment of our young people. I believe in giving opportunities to young people. However, there is a reason why there is no society on earth that is made up purely of young people. There is a reason why any ... view
  • 18 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: young people and the experience and calming effect that can only come with age and experience. Therefore, just the same way young people do not wish to be discriminated against in terms of opportunities, so should we not discriminate against persons of a particular age. History is full of people who have made a marked contribution to the welfare and to the development of their countries notwithstanding their age. The first President of this country became President at a very advanced age, but he was still able to set and establish the foundation for the nation we call Kenya today. ... view
