  • 1 Jul 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I understand your predicament. I apologise for coming a little late. However, the Committee has finalised plans to invite the Cabinet Secretary to apprise it and address the concerns by Hon. Sherriff Nassir. We are looking forward to prosecute this matter and dispense with it during the short break. However, it terms of visits to affected locations, I am afraid we will not be able to do that for now owing to the challenges with regard to end of the financial year change over that will not allow Parliament to facilitate the visit to the locations. ... view

  • 30 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I wish also to join my colleagues in thanking Hon. John Kiarie for bringing this very important matter on the Floor. I am very disappointed that from those parts of the country especially the northern and north- eastern parts, there is no representation and there have been no beneficiaries from the stimulus one-off package. • 9 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. At the outset, I wish to support this Motion on the Budget Estimates for Financial Year 2021/2022. At the same time, I also commend the Chairperson and the entire membership of the Budget and Appropriations Committee for a well-done Report which has, in many parts, incorporated and taken into account most of the recommendations that we had made as a Committee. During the review of the Estimates for the Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development and the State Department for Co-operatives that we oversee, the Committee noted that various trade and related functions ... view
  • 9 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: Every dollar that is spent in export promotion has a potential to generate $87 dollars of additional exports. So, this is a viable investment that the country must engage in to gain comparative advantage. The country has in the recent past negotiated and ratified various trade agreements, from the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA). As a country, we need to take advantage of those milestones that offer huge opportunities to farmers and pastoralist communities like those living in Mandera County. We should invest in the productive sector and strengthen our Trade Promotion Organizations (TPOs) ... view
  • 11 May 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. This is a matter of grave concern. Matters touching on public safety and health need to be expedited with the urgency they deserve. The Committee noted the 90 days within which we are supposed to make our response, but wish to ask for an extension to 120 days because of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the fact that the goods are stored in warehouses located across the country in over 30 counties. Therefore we are asking for an extension to 120 days. Thank you. view
