18 Aug 2015 in National Assembly:
Last week, one bank went under. I just hope and pray that--- Today it was in the media that we have disillusioned depositors who are walking around, and people who are doing business with that bank. They do not know the fate of their savings and wealth. I hope and pray that it is not going to be a systemic effect to the failure of that particular bank. Systemic effect is where failure of one bank causes the failure of another bank because banks borrow from one another. If there is any bank that had borrowed very much from the ...

18 Aug 2015 in National Assembly:
As I end, with regard to the issue of road levy, we need to be a bit careful with it, Chairman of the Finance, Planning and Trade Committee. The moment you touch on the Road Levy there will be increase of the fuel prices and such like things. We have to see how that affects the real Kenyan. All my life as a Member of Parliament, the Finance Bill is one of the most important Bills that come to the National Assembly and yet we are hardly five Hon. Members. I am a very sad man. The Finance Bill is a Bill that deals with taxation measures that affect the lives of our people. I hope my colleagues--- The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of ...

18 Aug 2015 in National Assembly:
Yes, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I have counted and seen that we are only five. But I hope next time we will do better. When the Jubilee Government had the right and appropriate policies and structural reforms in place our economy expanded by 5.3 per cent in 2014. The projection for this year is between 6.5 and 7.0 per cent. It is important to know that the Kenyan economy is one of the fastest growing economies in the region and in Africa. This is because the Central Bank of Kenya, the National Treasury, the private sector and the Government are ...

6 Aug 2015 in National Assembly:
Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. Village elders play a very important role in the spirit of devolution and decentralisation of decision making and solving issues. In fact, these village elders do some work that even our courts would have otherwise been forced to do. It is called alternative dispute resolution mechanism. I cannot remember any day when we do not refer matters to these village elders. If there are issues involving farmers or pastoralists, the people who are at all times actively involved in resolving those disputes are these village elders. They are very important in our society. You will ...
