17 Jul 2013 in National Assembly:
Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me that opportunity. I rise to support that Motion. I would like to take that opportunity to thank my brother, hon. Wario, who is my neighbour on the other bank of the same river, for bringing that Motion before that House. When I say that, I think it is clearly understood that the effects that he suffers is what I also suffer on the other side of the river. So, that Motion is important to me and to the people of Balambala Constituency, whom I represent. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, ...

17 Jul 2013 in National Assembly:
Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to say that those floods have caused loss of lives. Every time, it is not only the pain of seeing the graves of our ancestors being dug out by those floods, as was just explained by hon. Member before me but, indeed, in that process, very many people have been swept away alive. Children have been swept

16 Jul 2013 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, there is a lot of misunderstanding. It is making people very uncomfortable in their Chairs. Hon. Speaker, this Bill will go to the Committee. We have two weeks remaining. It can stay in this House for the next two months even after we come back. This is because there is the Second Reading where hon. Members will debate. There will then be the Committee Stage where we will bring amendments. If you want to extend the come- we-stay period from six months to 20 years, you will have the choice. I want to dispel the fears; you have ...

16 Jul 2013 in National Assembly:
I will take very few minutes. I want to thank hon. Wario for bringing this Motion. This is a Motion of great national importance. Over the years, what KenGen has been doing to many farmers downstream from the district of Garissa, Tana River, Lamu and part of Ukambani is unimaginable in terms of lose to the livelihood of our people. KenGen is one of the fastest growing companies in the country listed in the Nairobi Stock Exchange, with a lot of dollar funding. I wish the donors who are funding KenGen knew what KenGen does, the water they release every ...

16 Jul 2013 in National Assembly:
Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, with those few remarks, I support this Motion and urge hon. Wario to go further and form a Select Committee to go and interrogate KenGen. The Committee should also go and sit with all these farmers to quantify the loss and bring a serious recommendation that calls for the compensation of these people.

16 Jul 2013 in National Assembly:
I think a Select Committee of this House or the Departmental Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives and the Departmental Committee on Energy, Communication and Information should form a task force or a sub-committee to investigate this.

11 Jul 2013 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, Sir, I have a small Statement to issue which was sought by the Member for Kieni, hon. Kanini Kega on the compensation for the Mau Mau veterans. He asked three questions, namely, clarification to the House on who the said 5,400 individuals are; the criteria of distribution of the awarded compensation and the Government’s stand on the compensation issue. With your indulgence, I will only get clarifications based on this Statement. The first clarification is with regard to who the said 5,400 individuals are. The response is as follows:- (a) The suit relating to this matter was originally ...
