In this regard, because of the budget and the BPS, the House has only seven days from Thursday. So, it will be referred to committees, which will deal with that matter within seven days. So, from Thursday, committees will begin handling very critical constitutional matters. Therefore, the alteration of the Calendar will allow Hon. Members to pay their last respect to our departed patriot on 12th February 2020. Thereafter, the House will commence its sittings on Thursday, 13th February 2020 at 2.30 p.m. for the first Sitting.

He was a self-made politician who rose from a humble beginning to become the longest serving President of Kenya. The former President will be remembered for many things like education where he decentralised it from primary to secondary and also ensured higher education was decentralised. This led to many universities emerging like Moi University and Egerton University. He will be remembered for consolidating peace, stability and tranquility within the Horn of Africa and largely the East African region at a very difficult time for the region and the African continent.

Moi’s steady hand will also be remembered through the restoration of the multi-party politics by repealing Section 2A of the Constitution in 1991 which culminated in the transfer of power in December 2002. This was a very rare occurrence in Africa that set an example which has been emulated across the continent ever since.
