  • 11 Jul 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, with regard to disconnections, where subscribers have defaulted on payment of their bills, it does not include what I need to investigate. However, where customers, or wananchi, are paying their bills and there is disconnection, definitely, that will have to be corrected. As regards money, the Ministry will only do what it has been financed, by this House, to do. So, it is within the Budget allocation that we are able to give that amount of money. Where there is extra funding, definitely, we will consider doing more. view
  • 28 Jun 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) Yes, I am aware that West Karachuonyo Water Project which was commissioned in 1973 does not operate at full capacity due to frequent pipe bursts experienced at some sections of the aged pipeline. The clogging of the intake by the water hyacinth weed has also contributed to reducing the capacity of this water supply project. (b) Rehabilitation works on one of the two main pipelines to Got Oyaro has been completed and the pipeline is operational, while rehabilitation of the other line is ongoing. Rehabilitation of the three-kilometre branchline to ... view

  • 28 Jun 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, the tariff is determined by the Water Regulatory Board and it is a common tariff which is affordable within the framework of the national tariffs that we have put in place. As for the first one, we shall ask the Water Board responsible to look into it and assess how much it will cost and we shall consider giving money for that extra power supply to the project. view

  • 23 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) I am aware that Maragua Town is supplied with piped water from Kigumo Rural Water Supply on a rationing basis. This is supplemented by water from a low-yielding borehole which operates daily. (b) I am aware that the 100-millimetre diameter pipeline from Kigumo Water Supply is inadequate to serve Maragua Town. A proposal to supply water to the town through a 300- millimetre diameter gravity pipeline from Kinyona Treatment Works was conceived early 2006 and my Ministry, through the Tana Water Services Board, is undertaking studies to determine viability of this proposal. ... view
  • 23 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, preliminary estimates for Kigumo-Kinyona Gravity Pipeline is about Kshs150 million. Thorough studies are being done and we expect this to be completed any time. The Irati Water Supply was being undertaken by the local authority and the cost estimate is just about what the hon. Member has indicated. That is also expected to be completed any time and we are hoping that the Irati Water Supply phase will be included in this year's Budget. However, I urge the hon. Member to put some effort in co-operating with the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the local authority ... view
