Dr. Agnes Zani

From her childhood days, she recalls that any kind of injustice to anyone made her hair stand on end. At the university, Agnes occasionally acted as the chairperson of her department and started the Ford Foundation International Fellowships Alumni Programme, which she has been chairing since. When Kwale residents threatened to boycott the 2013 elections during the infamous “Pwani si Kenya” unrest, she took it upon herself to offer free civic education to her community. Education tops the former lecturer of University of Nairobi main agenda during her term of service.

  • 13 Feb 2020 in Senate: The figures stood up for themselves; 77 Bills that have been processed, almost half of them coming from the National Assembly. Our Bills going to the National Assembly and not being processed is beginning to sound like a song in this House. There is nothing else we have spoken about apart from that. We know that the evaluation of our House is going to be on the basis of how many Motions and Statements they have produced. Mr. Speaker, not because--- view
  • 13 Feb 2020 in Senate: We should be able to address that. I do not even think that the Bill is going to pass in the first case; it is probably one of the ones that will be termed a Money Bill. It really puts us in a quagmire because apart from issues like petitions, just to note that we have about 47 petitions that still need to be processed--- This means that we need to come up with a different strategy on how to fast-track them. I would think that if we formed sub- The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for ... view
  • 13 Feb 2020 in Senate: committees within Committees to address specific petitions, then we will move faster. This is because that is an area in terms of evaluation where we need to look across and see how best we can improve. view
  • 13 Feb 2020 in Senate: On the issue of Article 113 (3) of the Constitution and its progression, we are held up. This is an issue that started with the 11th Parliament, and I remember it has been commented about. The Committee that was set up - and I think Sen. Murkomen was the Chair and Sen. Mutula Kilonzo Jnr a Member--- I remember we went and met for a whole morning at the New Stanley Hotel. We spoke about the issue of making sure that the Senate becomes the Upper House, at least giving it the teeth to bite as a legislative House. We ... view
  • 13 Feb 2020 in Senate: Some of the Members have stated that these Bills take a very long time to process. By the time they are out of this House to the other House--- One of the Bills that is coming up very shortly is the Community Health Bill, which is very key in addressing health concerns for the communities. It is because of that reason and the fact that we are here that we should be processing these Bills and helping communities that we really need to understand what it is that these Bills have stagnated. I do not know what we are going ... view
  • 13 Feb 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I get worried because we have too many contradictions. We speak through the microphone and say we should approach this in one way, but in action we do exactly the opposite. We are all seized of this and know exactly what it is that we tend to move in a direction where we do not move together. We need to make that decision, move together and actualize the dream and the position of the Senate as envisaged in the Constitution. I support the Motion. view
  • 27 Nov 2019 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, my neighbour is on the Speaker’s seat today. I am very proud of you. You should be on that seat more often. view
  • 27 Nov 2019 in Senate: The passion and dedication of Sen. (Dr.) Musuruve is visible and her enthusiasm is amazing. If a Senator had the intention of walking out to attend a committee meeting, they will be compelled to sit and listen to her and make contribution. Sen. (Dr.) Musuruve seeks to address what is going on and that is good leadership. I hope that the PWDs in Kenya see and appreciate the work that she is doing to change their lives. view
  • 27 Nov 2019 in Senate: The Motion proposes creation of Para Sports associations in each of the 47 counties. I suggest that Sen. (Dr.) Musuruve works with the Directorate of Legal Services, to identify exactly which law might be appropriate. A quick amendment can be brought to the House because we already have the Kenya National Paralympic Committee (KNPC) in place. The laws should be cascaded to the counties. I think the amendment will find agreement in this House and in the other House because this is not a money Bill. view
