  • 4 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: With regard to parental responsibility, why are we opening a way for people to separate or divorce, and then be signing agreements? When I accept to marry you and then we have kids, it is automatic that we need to take care of the interests of our child. view
  • 10 Feb 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker for giving me this opportunity to air my condolences. On behalf of the people of Nyamira County, I send our deepest sincere condolences to the families of hon. Muchai, his bodyguards and his driver. It becomes serious when an hon. Member and his aides are assassinated in the manner it happened last week. I know that the electorate of Kabete Constituency are not happy with what happened, nor are the Members of Parliament. We are not happy. We do not want to see the same happen to another person. Insecurity is now creeping into Parliament. We ... view
  • 10 Dec 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, thank you for giving me the opportunity to also support the Traffic (Amendment) Bill. I know that it is what we see day in, day out. Accidents are all over and you wonder why all this is happening when we want to be safe at all times. Many a times, most of the accidents are manmade because we lack due diligence; the drivers, the school management operating the buses and the parents who have a role in this game. As we ensure that this amendment goes through, we need to ensure that people adhere to the ... view
  • 10 Dec 2014 in National Assembly: I am a victim and this morning I was forced to take a motorbike but it was good because he told me to put on a reflective jacket and helmet. I was where I was supposed to be at 7.00 a.m. safely using the motorbike because the traffic jam on our roads was chaotic this morning. So, I thank that person because he had everything and he assisted me to be where I wanted to be. view
  • 10 Dec 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, yes. Let me tell you that we need to overhaul the training of our drivers, for school buses, matatus and motorcycles, so that they are enlightened on the new advancements. They need to be told to observe traffic lights on our roads. Sometimes as you are at a zebra crossing, you expect motorbikes to stop, but they do not. They miss running over pedestrians. As we support this amendment Bill, we want to ensure there are more skills for drivers. People who The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 10 Dec 2014 in National Assembly: take our children to school need to have listening skills, patience and they need to be taught how to manage their stress and emotions. Some of those employed do not have time to rest and so with their emotions, instead of being attentive to what they are doing, they get carried away. Another thing that is happening on our roads with the buses and minibuses that are carrying pupils to school is that most of them are rejects. They have been rejected from their various routes. They are not up to date but schools allow them to carry their students. ... view
  • 29 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker, for allowing me to put my voice to this noble Motion that I support greatly. This House should deliberate on this issue and ensure that there is a regulatory body in place and many players are licensed to participate in the air transport. We will make great progress, if we do this. At the moment, the monopoly that Kenya Airways is enjoying needs to be broken. It takes us back to the ages of the Kenya Co-operative Creameries and the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, which we no longer see. We should work hard to ensure that ... view
  • 29 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Airways does not continue being the only player in the air transport. Due to the monopoly, the fares are very high. The common man cannot afford the air fare. This is the fastest mode of transport and enables you to do what you want to do at the right time. As we grow socially, politically and economically, the air transport should be liberalized to ensure that there are other players. We have major challenges in this sector such as traffic jams in our airports. I look forward to a time when I will fly from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport ... view
  • 18 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you hon. Deputy Speaker for the chance to also comment on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM); I also need some clarifications from the Leader of the Majority Party. I come from a community that is practising FGM; actually I am a victim. I wish my brother was around. It was wrong for him to say that it is a culture that we should embrace at this time in Kisii. I wish he was a woman like me who has undergone FGM and who survived. It is wrong. It is pathetic. It is primitive. It is something that we should not ... view
  • 18 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: I know that the rite of circumcision has been a bargaining tool for politicians to keep people voting for them, but it has to end. Let no be no. We are women. We are the people who are suffering, and we are telling you from experience that it is wrong to circumcise women. view
