  • 10 Feb 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. I would like to join my colleagues. On behalf of the people of Mumias East Constituency, which I represent, and on behalf of my family and myself, I would like to convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of hon. Muchai, the two bodyguards and the driver, and to the people of Kabete for losing a Member who was to us, as the Majority side of Parliament, very co-operative, friendly and who made our work, as whips, very easy. Hon. Speaker, it is very disheartening that the late hon. Muchai met his fate when he had ... view
  • 11 Dec 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. I would like add my voice as we adjourn. When listening to hon. Members who have wished Kenyans - and I am wishing the people of Mumias a Merry Christmas - sometimes I wonder whether hon. Members know what the people of Mumias are going through right now. Hon. Deputy Speaker, as we adjourn, I would like to let the House know that Mumias, the former giant in sugar production, is on its knees. The power has been switched off for two weeks now. The security team that used to take care of Mumias is ... view
  • 3 Dec 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. Hon. Ng’ongo, who brought this Bill, has talked of having forgotten to include the name of the former Deputy Prime Minister. We, as members of the United Democratic Forum (UDF) Party, which is co-operating with the Government, are comfortable with the exclusion of hon. Musalia Mudavadi’s name, or title, from this Bill because he has not retired. I would want, in the spirit of this Bill, to say that anybody who has retired should be the only person to benefit from this Bill. We are making this Bill for posterity. Therefore, we are asking, ... view
  • 3 Dec 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, I was about to finish. I was saying the positions that are listed in this Bill are political positions. view
  • 3 Dec 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, if we are going to consider the position of Prime Minister in this Bill, then we need to include the position of Deputy Prime Minister because they were together. All these were political positions. Another thing that we will need to inform this House about is, under the Political Parties Act, you cannot use public funds to do politics. Therefore, if those that are going to benefit from this are still in politics, then they will go against the Political Parties Act. view
  • 25 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I hope that will not affect my time because I have three minutes. I want to take this opportunity to pass my condolence to the families that lost their loved ones. I am one of the Members who are seriously affected by this. As we speak now, four of my cousins are lying in the mortuary at Chiromo. These are Mwalimu Millicent Weremba; a lady who went through college the other day and enrolled with the TSC. The others are Mwalimu Janet Shitemi, Mwalimu Patrick Mukobi and Mwalimu Cleopatra Omukenya. These are young people ... view
  • 25 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: District has been number one in this country for two consecutive years. I am also hoping that this year we are also going to be number one in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination. I am aware that the TSC posted these teachers to Mandera, so that they can uplift the level of education in Mandera. As I speak today, more than 100 teachers from Mumias East are teaching in Mandera. The question here is: What security are we guaranteeing these young people in Mandera? We are going all the way there. Mandera is not a place that one would ... view
  • 22 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. I take this opportunity to thank hon. Midiwo for that very important question. I was wondering because some hon. Members, including myself, have equally very important questions. For example, I have a Question in the Table Office which I was told will receive the same treatment. Are we now then changing our approach by asking Questions on the Floor of the House? How do you want to advise us as a way forward? view
  • 15 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. I want to take very few minutes to second this Motion by first congratulating the Mover and His Excellency the President for the move he made. I was invited on 6th October, 2014 to come and attend the Special Session where the President was to address us. Dutifully I was in Parliament in good time to welcome him at the gate in my capacity as the Deputy Whip and we moved together up to the Chamber where he delivered a historic statement. Hon. Speaker, after the historic statement which he delivered to the nation from Parliament, ... view
  • 15 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: capable of leading this nation. I think that is the kind of President Kenyans want; a simple President who can be humane and feel for the people. Hon. Speaker, I want to remind this House that there was a time when the President had an official visit to Tanzania and when he was coming back, he crossed the border to Namanga and joined the Maasai in eating roasted meat in some kiosks that none of us, hon. Members, would have imagined visiting. He ate meat together with his deputy. I think this is just one of the signs that our ... view
