  • 25 Apr 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, looking at the agenda proposed, it seems there will be discussions on the roles of the different actors; that is, the Senators and Governors. We also need to come up with a report on the kind of devolution we envisage. Considering that hon. Senators have quite a bit to say about their relationship with Governors, oversight and the roles they play, as opposed to going there with each hon. Senator with their own mind and not having a collective Senate feeling on these issues which are quite weighty, would it not be in order to have a ... view
  • 24 Apr 2013 in Senate: Thank you Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to support the Presidential Address. Before I do that, I would like to congratulate you, Mr. Deputy Speaker and Mr. Speaker, for being elected to the high office in this Chamber. This is because of your past record. I also want to congratulate all the Senators, especially those elected who went through the campaigns because I know how tough that can be. Your people had faith in you. I also want to congratulate the nominated Senators because they were nominated for a reason and it is because of the ... view

  • 9 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I rise to support the amendment. I support the amendment very strongly because I want to assert it is wrong for people to allege things without any proof against other people and damage their reputation. I happen to have been an Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Education and Mrs. Lydia Nzomo was in the Kenya Institute of Education, where she did a commendable job. She is a lady of high integrity. I really feel that unless there is proof of corruption and a report is tabled, this House should not impute ill motives on ... view
  • 9 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I also want to add my voice in supporting the Motion as amended. Now that there has been the explanation about gender, and that there are three other women who are in the first group that is very acceptable. But I still want to insist that we have very few women chairing commissions. We do not yet have our one third when you put all the commissions together; they should even be more. view

  • 19 Dec 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Cabinet directed that a taskforce be established to look at all available evidence and scientific research. This includes the latest study which emanates from French scientists which states that studies linking GMO maize to cancer must be taken seriously by the regulators. This is as recent as this year. In fact, it is a few months ago. This is a study that has taken two years. Many other studies took 90 days, about three months, feeding the GMO maize to the rats or whoever they give it to. That is the reason. Wherever there is doubt ... view
  • 19 Dec 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, wherever there is doubt as to the future implications on the health of the Kenyan people, it is the Government’s responsibility, vested in my Ministry, to take precaution. The mandate of this taskforce is to check all the areas. The Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology are represented. The taskforce is mandated to recommend to the Government as to the safety of the foods, with the new information that is coming, so that Kenyans are not worried anymore. We must not always look at the profit margins of these areas, but ... view
