  • 26 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Chairlady, I am quoting this from experience. Any time women issues are discussed in the House, most people are shouting and refusing even to listen to reason. I wonder how we can even debate if they behave like it is rubbish. There is no interest whatsoever to hear those issues. I just wanted to say to my male colleagues here that women issues are family issues. The new Constitution has recognized international laws as part of Kenyan laws. Such laws of affirmative action exist. So, we should honour women issues when they are debated in this House. ... view
  • 3 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to commend Eng. Gumbo for this Motion which is very timely. Indeed, the Government has already led the way. The Prime Minister announced that the Government was going to facilitate the supply of sanitary towels to the needy girls. Indeed, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance made allocation for this need. Therefore, it is something that the Government supports. I would also like to commend the fact that it is a man who has brought this Motion and not a woman. That shows that men have realized that women issues are ... view
  • 15 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Let me begin by congratulating the three nominees because they deserve those positions. I am a Member of the Committee that vetted these people. I would like to assert here that most of the questions which were being asked bordering on the nominees’ sexual orientation were as a result of issues raised by the religious groups. We, as a Committee, had to listen to all views from all Kenyans, including representatives of the religious groups. That is why those questions were asked. However, the nominees answered those questions very well. They were able to ... view
  • 31 May 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Chairman, Sir, let me say that my first feeling was to support this amendment. I was on record as opposing very strongly what the Ligale Commission did. I still do, because it did not act impartially. In many constituencies, we complained. There were no reasons for their delineation the way they were. view
  • 31 May 2011 in National Assembly: Despite the fact that the first paragraph says that the Commission shall resolve all issues arising from the past review relating to delimitation of boundaries of constituencies and wards, and publish its final report within a period of fourth months, I still decline to support this amendment. The Ligale Commission must not assume that it had finished its work. We are on record in this House saying that we only approved the Committee Report. We were not approving Ligale Report as such. view
  • 31 May 2011 in National Assembly: Therefore, I want to put a very stronger rider that even in supporting this amendment--- view
  • 31 May 2011 in National Assembly: No, No! Okay, I am supporting the former amendment and opposing the current one. I am doing so on the strength that this will not mean that we go along with what was presented by Ligale. We expect that the new Commission will correct all what was protested and give us new boundaries. view
  • 25 May 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Assistant Minister for Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs has just walked in. view
  • 25 May 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would have responded, but the Assistant Minister has come. So, I will just contribute to the debate. view
  • 25 May 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I thank you for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this very important Motion. I want to thank the hon. Member for bringing the Motion to the House. It is very timely and needed, and it will go a long way in reforming the electoral system in this country. view
