  • 4 Oct 2023 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I very well understand the concerns of the Senator for Nandi County. However, the communication that explained that the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts was unable to make it this morning, was not in your possession as the Speaker this morning. You were guided by the decision of the Senate Business Committee (SBC). Whereas the Senator is free to say all the things that he said, if the SBC was satisfied and allowed the Cabinet Secretary to be absent today, I think the Senator for Nandi County is overreaching himself when he uses ... view
  • 4 Oct 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. This Petition which I support is a wakeup call and food for thought. A wake up call to the extent that we realize the need to amend the Constitution and make it more user friendly. When affirmative action was introduced in the Constitution, it was supposed to serve the principle of inclusivity and equal access to opportunities. With the benefit of hindsight, this has not been the case. This spirit only benefits party leaders directly or by default, their names are used to reward people purely on the basis of other considerations; shamelessly, including people ... view
  • 4 Oct 2023 in Senate: Kenyans who deserve to be nominated. We have to bite the bullet and say, “to hell with nominations, let men and women compete to become elected.” I have close friends in this House who are nominated. I am not saying this with their names on my mind. In fact, my immediate neighbour, Sen. Nyamu can kick me on the side if she thought that I am having her in mind. We want to make Kenya better. I am a father of a number of girls. I teach them every day that just like they beat boys in class, if your ... view

  • 4 Oct 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. Allow me to congratulate the Cabinet Secretary. He is one of the Cabinet Secretaries who take our calls and call us. Hon. • 4 Oct 2023 in Senate: every Kenyan the right of access to information in the custody of the Government. Can you please balance this with our age-old tradition in Parliament, where you are free to ask the Speaker to allow you to table that information in camera? I invite you. Having done so, allow me to ask you my question. Haiti is 12,119 kilometres away. It takes 13 hours of flying to reach Haiti and the cheapest flight is Kshs220,700. You have justified our presence in regional missions by attributing it to the need for us to be part of securing peace, security and stability ... view

  • 4 Oct 2023 in Senate: I beg your pardon, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No. 52(1) to make a Statement on a matter of national importance and general topical concern, namely, the temporary suspension by the High Court in Eldoret of all the official sittings, meetings and deliberations by Members of Uasin Gishu County Assembly, pending the hearing and determination of a Petition challenging the composition of the County Assembly. The suspension arose from the filing of a Petition in the High Court by a civil society activist, challenging the composition of the County Assembly, specifically, that the Assembly lacks the ... view
