As I welcome the young people to this House, whom I hope will have an opportunity to serve in the coming days, let me celebrate with them the rich leadership that has traditionally come from Bomet. It must be understood that those are workers of the Universal Healthcare, who happen to share the same professional background with me, albeit at different levels. total stock of public and publicly-granted debt stood at Kshs11.02 trillion, equivalent to 65.7 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), up from Kshs10.58 trillion, which was equivalent to 65.7 per cent of the GDP in June, 2024. This figure is projected to rise further to Kshs13 trillion by June, 2027. Consequently, debt servicing costs are expected to increase to Kshs1.97 trillion by June, 2025 and further to Kshs2.4 trillion by June, 2027. On the matter of Petitions, hon. Senators will recall that the Standing Orders were amended to have the reports on Petitions debated and adopted. So far, the Senate has considered and adopted eight reports on Petitions. Standing Order No.225 of the Senate Standing Orders provides for follow-up on implementation of the Senate resolutions. I, therefore, urge the Senate Standing Committees to follow up on the same and ensure that the recommendations on the Petitions are acted upon.
