  • 18 Jun 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I would like to add my voice to what the other Senators have said. I stand to support the Motion which has been brought to the Floor of the House by Sen. (Dr.) Machage. This Motion is long overdue because if you look around, the uneven distribution of health facilities in the country continues to widen. There are disparities in affordability and access to medical care. I take my county as an example. In Trans Nzoia County, we have a hospital by the name Kitale District Hospital. This hospital serves many neighbouring counties and even ... view
  • 23 May 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to give notice of the following Motion:- THAT, aware that the level of unemployment among the youth in Kenya is over 70 per cent and is rising; concerned that the formal sector is unable to generate sufficient formal employment for college graduates resulting in far reaching ramifications to the economy and societies across all counties in Kenya; noting that the youth are unable to venture into private enterprises because of lack to access to affordable credit, the Senate urges the Government to take urgent and immediate steps to ensure legislation is enacted to provide for ... view

  • 21 May 2013 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to thank you that I have been able to catch your eye. I rise to support the Bill. Devolution is a new thing in our country and it is a test for the Jubilee Government, whether they are committed to it or not. The Bill which is before us is a major step by the Government in an effort to fund the county governments so that they can be functional. I will comment on the figures in the Bill. When you look at the Budget, you will realize that the figures are based on ... view
  • 24 Apr 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity. Before we adjourned for lunch, I was commenting on the issues of the Constituencies Development Fund (CDF) kitty. Whereas majority of Senators say that the CDF has worked very well in their counties, in the constituency where I come from, this kitty has in the past been misused. In my view, we should have proper structures put in place to ensure proper usage of this money. For instance, this money should be released by a bank where the Government has an interest, for example, the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) or ... view
  • 24 Apr 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to make a contribution to the Presidential Address. I would like to congratulate you and your senior for being elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Senate. I also want to hail the Constitution for making it possible for women to be nominated to the august House. I therefore stand here as an elected woman and my constituency is the woman at the grassroots. One or two people said that ladies in the Senate do not have constituencies and, therefore, we are not going to get equal allowances. ... view
