  • 20 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I rise to second this Motion. Let me begin by saying that climate change is real and is here with us because we are already witnessing many adverse effects of climate change. I want to remind this House of a quote by a former Member of this House, who is late and whom we remember with a lot of love, that is, Prof. Wangari Maathai. She said: “Nature is very unforgiving - What you give to nature is what nature gives back to you.” Hon. Speaker, because of our own human errors, we are now witnessing ... view
  • 20 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: the rocks beneath. When I was growing up, I used to see Mt. Kenya every morning as I went to school. It was snowcapped and I thought that is how it ought to be and forever will be. Today, all that snow has melted away. All those snowcapped mountains which we bragged or talked about as a nation and visitors came to see are no longer there. There is nothing to show in terms of snow. We are being hit by drought and famine in scales we have never witnessed before. We are now seeing human-animal conflict and human to ... view
  • 20 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: caucus on climate change in the last Parliament. I hope the Members in this particular House can run with it because at the end of the day we can do all we are doing in terms of development. You can undertake all the planning in your constituencies at the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) level but as long as we continue to have these challenges, and we do not have the necessary financing to mitigate the same, you will find yourselves having to go back to the very plan you had set, taking away money from your NG- CDF ... view
  • 14 Dec 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I rise to second this Motion and say that these are the remaining constituencies whose NG-CDF Committees had not yet been approved. They are ready for gazettement. In view of the Adjournment Motion and the recess that is ahead of us, it is only important that we pass this Motion so that the members can be able to begin work in their various constituencies, because I know that the hearts and minds of members are in the next Motion. We are all looking forward to doing these elections today. Let me end there. I second. view

  • 14 Dec 2017 in National Assembly: I think there is need for further induction for a full week. view
  • 14 Dec 2017 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I will proceed to reply. I want to thank all the Members who have contributed to this Motion and especially those who have supported the need for us to form these committees so that we can begin the work of Parliament immediately, and so that even as we go on recess, these committees can begin their work over the recess period because there is a lot of pending work. With those few remarks, I beg to reply. view
  • 6 Dec 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I also rise to add my voice to those that have spoken before me by sending my condolences to the family of Hon. Francis Nyenze, a great leader who served in Parliament very well. Hon. Nyenze was a personal friend and a friendly person who provided very mature leadership as Leader of the Minority Party. All of us will agree that he was one very humble man. He never carried himself like the Minority Leader he was supposed to be. He gave chance to those in the Opposition at that time to participate in debate and ... view
  • 6 Dec 2017 in National Assembly: You just sign off the much you want to be deducted from your payslip at the end of the month. Please let us not allow that culture to die. Let us continue with that culture because there is nothing as important as working together and being there for each other beyond politics. I believe Hon. Nyenze deserves that support for himself and his family. He always did that. He always signed the check-off system even for Members from other parties because he was a very friendly man. May his soul rest in peace. view
