  • 22 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I rise to support this Motion for the very reason that we have a very important national duty ahead of us. This is a very historic moment for this country which is to bring a new constitutional dispensation in this country. As we continue with the duty as Parliamentarians in this House, we are losing very valuable time to go out there and inform Kenyans about what is in this Draft Constitution. For that reason, I feel that we need to free ourselves from this important duty in Parliament and go out there and do a ... view
  • 22 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this Bill. I wish to begin, at the outset, by congratulating the Mover, Ms. Odhiambo, because I think this particular Bill could not have come at a better time. We are at a point in the history of our country when we are trying to come up with a new Constitution, which has really looked into the issues of children and women and their rights. We know that trafficking in persons is a big issue in this country, which has not been looked at ... view
  • 9 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want from the onset to really thank the Mover of this Motion, Mr. Kaino, for bringing a Motion whose time has come and at the very nick of time when we should be thinking about food security and creating employment for our people. I also want to congratulate the Minster for Agriculture who has very ably supported this Motion and agreed with every one that this is something that must be taken into consideration. I believe that in her able leadership, we will be able to achieve this policy guideline that we are passing ... view
  • 9 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: To the Members of Parliament, we will be reading our budget this week. I hope that we can insist on more money being pushed to these two critical Ministries so that Kenya can have economic growth and achieve Vision 2030. With those few remarks, I beg to support. view
  • 1 Apr 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I also feel that this particular Article is being misinterpreted by the hon. Members. Nobody approves of child marriage, but I think we are reading this Article in the wrong way. When we say that every adult has a right to marry a person--- It does not say this person should be a child. I imagine it means an adult. More than that, if you go to Article 53 on children, we will still have to enact legislation which will define who a child is. I think we want to put too many details into this Constitution; ... view

  • 1 Apr 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, political party tyranny has been there with us since the one party rule. It is about time we get Kenyans opportunity to run whether or not, they are popular with a leader in a political party. The biggest victims of this tyranny are youth and women who do not have money to give to political parties. view

  • 31 Mar 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I rise to support this Motion. I think it is a good compromise in view of the controversy around the issue. I think this is the way to go. Unfortunately, as others have said, we may not have the numbers to pass this important Motion. I wish the same vigour with which the clergy has used to address the issue of abortion would be used to challenge the men who turn their backs on children they bear. They need to know that turning your back on a child who is born is as dangerous as aborting. ... view
  • 31 Mar 2010 in National Assembly: Thank you, Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker. I just want to say that any man married to a wife, father to a daughter, grandfather to a grandchild or son of a mother cannot be this retrogressive to bring such an amendment. I oppose it, Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker. view
