  • 23 Apr 2008 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I stand to support this Motion. I think a lot has happened in this country since last year's General Elections. I think all of us who were running for office had something to do with the problems that we are having. Those mothers and children who have been living out of their homes for the last four months--- Every time you watch them speaking on television, they blame us. They ask themselves: "Why did we, in the first place, leave our homes to go and vote for these leaders?" As we debate this Motion ... view
  • 23 Apr 2008 in National Assembly: Let us not solve this problem in a technical manner. Let us ensure that people can live in an acceptable way. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am not in any way saying that these people should not be resettled. But reading from the newspapers, and hearing what people are saying, there is a problem between the people who have been living together. Therefore, we need to understand the problem much more deeply than dealing with it by saying: "The Government can settle so many people. We are putting aside so much money and putting up so many police stations". We ... view
  • 20 Mar 2008 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I stand to support the Presidential Address that was delivered to this House during the State opening of the Tenth Parliament. I equally support the Prime Minister-designate, for all the statements that he has been making to bring peace in this country. This is the first time in my 15 years in Parliament that I address this august House when we have just gone through a crisis after a general election. In the past, we have held elections and have come here in a very peaceful atmosphere. Unfortunately, this was not the case ... view
  • 20 Mar 2008 in National Assembly: Actually, that was supposed to be mine long time ago before you kicked me out of NARC, but it will come. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would like to talk about delivery of services in this country. I believe this is one thing that we, certainly, did better between 2002 and 2007 than what the KANU Government did. I also believe that with the resources available in this country, we should do better. However, this will only happen if we ensure that we do not misuse resources. This will happen if we establish proper institutions in this country that ... view
  • 11 Mar 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I stand to oppose the list of the House Business Committee as constituted. In this Tenth Parliament, we have more women hon. Members than we have had before. If you look at the list that we have before us, you will see gender balance has not been taken into account. Therefore, I would like to ask those who constituted this Committee to go back and look into the various parties, and know that we have more women, so that we can include them in this Committee. So, I oppose this list as constituted. view
  • 16 Oct 2007 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir. The amendment that has been brought by Ms. Njoki is very timely. We all know the work that women in this country do. We all know the difficulties that they go through, especially when they have just got their young ones. I want to support this amendment and say that even the three months that we are asking for are not enough. view
  • 16 Oct 2007 in National Assembly: They are not enough because by the time a woman gets her child and goes through her "baby blues", she is just about to get ready to go back to work, leaving her baby behind with the others. So, Mr. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, I strongly recommend that this amendment be taken as recommended by Ms. Njoki. view
  • 7 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Could you ask the hon. Member to support the work that the Ministry of Health is doing, much more than supporting my beauty? view
  • 7 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all hon. Members for the support they have given to the Ministry of Health through their contributions. I have noted some of the concerns that have been raised on the Floor of this House. Since our technical team is here and they have noted those issues, we will see how the resources available will be distributed once this Vote is passed. We can make good some of the proposals that have been made. Mr. Speaker, Sir, hon. Members have invested Constituencies Development Fund (CDF) money to put up ... view
  • 7 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: The Ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning and National Development, will soon be developing a policy on herbal medicine. view
