  • 7 Aug 2019 in National Assembly: With those few remarks, I support. I look forward for proper implementation of this legislation. Let us not just legislate, but follow up to ensure that all what we are legislating is properly implemented. I am calling on the Committee on Implementation to ensure that what we pass in the House is fully implemented. view
  • 24 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: This one is working, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Thank you for the opportunity you have given me this morning. I would like to congratulate Hon. John Waluke for bringing this critical and, indeed, very technical Motion. It is worth to note, historically, that Kenya has never registered a positive balance of trade since I was born. It has always been negative. What happened to a country… view

  • 24 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Yes. I have not seen Kenya register a positive balance of trade. It is regrettable. We are actually importing triple what we are exporting. It is worth to note that a trade deficit is not always very bad for a country but, when it is so consistent each and every year, we have to start worrying about what we can do to bridge this deficit. It is worth to note that, sometimes, trade deficits actually improve the standards of living. It reduces the rate of… view
  • 24 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Yes. I am saying trade deficit is not always necessarily bad but, when it is so consistent each and every year, we have worry on how to bridge this deficit. It is worth to note that, out of all this, we can only bring this deficit down by first taxing imports heavily and subsidising our exports yet this goes against the principle of free trade which is anchored in many bilateral agreements. Good governance, for instance, good legal or justice systems will invite what we call “direct foreign investments”. This way, we are going to produce more in our country. ... view
  • 24 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: positive balance of trade has been registered in some of the countries we never benchmark, like Russia. We need to borrow a leaf from Russia, not just comparing ourselves with local or regional countries like Ethiopia. If at all we are going to bridge this deficit, our commercial attachés in those different parts of the countries have to pull up their socks. It is worthy to note our cost of production, in almost every sector, is very high. We are talking issues of energy, electricity. It is one of the highest in Africa, if not in the world. It is ... view
  • 4 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker, for the opportunity given to me. This topic is coming at a time which is really good for us. I used to be a financial director in one of the most profitable companies in the world, Etihad Airways. I would like to support this Report based on what the Committee has recommended. One, the Committee did a lot of work and I would like to appreciate that. However, it is good to note that before anything that KQ proposed to do, we must first of all nationalise it, so that we can be proud of it. ... view
  • 4 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: With those few remarks, I support the Committee. This issue must be considered without any emotions. I support and thank you very much. view
  • 19 Jun 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. I would like to thank Hon. Osoro aka Sura Mbaya for moving this Motion. I would also like to congratulate Hon. Nixon Korir for seeing it wise to move to the right side of the Government. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. Acertified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor. view
  • 19 Jun 2019 in National Assembly: Mwingi West, WDM-K): Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I would like to put it clear that Hon. Osoro has already accepted this name and it has always been circulating among the Members that he is called Sura Mbaya . I would like to start contributing to this Motion by saying that knowledge is power and sometimes we have to acknowledge that information is liberating. I would like to support this Motion. Let us not introduce it in schools for the matter of being a subject. It can be introduced as a title. Many of our people in this country, especially pedestrians ... view
