  • 21 Mar 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this Motion. I thank Hon. Maalim for moving this Motion. It is very important and I urge the Members to support it because I know majority of us here have got relatives working as police officers. We have visited them in their houses and have seen the conditions under which they live. We are not only requesting for housing for the police officers. We all know their salaries. Imagine a policeman earning a gross salary of Kshs47,000. It is peanuts considering the life The electronic version ... view
  • 21 Mar 2018 in National Assembly: standard in this country. So, other than housing, their salaries need to be looked into. One of the President’s Big Four Agenda, is housing. That being the case, our President and Government ought to incorporate housing for policemen in that perspective. I know majority of policemen will need to improve their working conditions. I have visited so many police stations and their working areas are not good at all. They do not even have access to electricity! I would like the House to request the Government to ensure that where there are police stations and camps, there must be electricity. ... view
  • 20 Mar 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this timely Bill. Nairobi generates almost 60 per cent of our GPD, and it is the only capital city in the world with a national park, which is very important for tourism in this region and in Africa. view
  • 20 Mar 2018 in National Assembly: I rise to support this Bill because I see the multiplier effect it is going to have on our economy. We have to note that we are losing almost Kshs100 billion annually because of an inefficient transport system in this country. If you look at other developed cities in the world, especially London, New York and Athens in Greece, where I have lived for many years, this system has worked. I support the Motion on the basis of the impact it will have. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, the Leader of the Majority Party is making noise. He is interrupting me. view
  • 20 Mar 2018 in National Assembly: Yes. I am supporting this Bill because we are losing a lot of revenue annually amounting to Kshs1 billion because of the inefficient transport system. I am proposing that the Mover should recommend privatisation of this system. The Government cannot fund and run it in an efficient way. We have seen it working in so many countries. I support it because I know the significance of decongesting the city and spurring economic growth in these counties. I am sure if we privatise it, we are going to ensure that it is well run. view
  • 20 Mar 2018 in National Assembly: This Bill, of course, is going to save energy, time and costs of having to move around the three counties. It is also going to have a lot of impact on microeconomic variables that I am talking about. For this, I recommend that as we implement it through privatisation, the Committee responsible for transport should study how the system has worked in other countries. If the Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works and Housing is here, I will recommend that he does a further study and bring the findings to this House. It is important for all ... view
  • 21 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity to support this timely and critical Motion on the National Housing Policy. This Motion should have been passed a long time ago because of the situation we face in our slums. For example, the high rate of crime. view
  • 21 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: This Policy is in line with the President’s big four agenda. Proper housing is one of the objectives of the agenda. At the same time, the policy is in line with the Vision 2030, which is outlined clearly. If we adopt this Sessional Paper, it is going to alleviate overcrowding especially in our urban centres. It is very important we adopt this Motion on low cost housing because it will attract local investors. As we all know, most houses in Nairobi and other urban centres are owned by foreigners. If we adopt this Policy, we will entice Kenyans to own ... view
  • 21 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: Another advantage is that we will improve the health of our communities. Upgrading our slums with proper sanitation will improve community health. view
  • 21 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: Allow me to be that brief. I support the Motion. Thank you very much view
  • 29 Nov 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I would like to first thank Hon. Melly, the Mover of the Motion. This is a very wonderful and timely Motion. First, in urban centres, we will have a reduction of noise pollution. I have lived near hospitals and if those lanes are provided, we will have a reduction of noise pollution. Many ambulances come in and if we have service lanes, they will not make a lot of noise. Provision of these lanes will reduce noise pollution. Secondly, they will save lives. Thirdly, they will improve traffic flow. ... view
  • 27 Sep 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. Before I embark on the business of the day, allow me to congratulate the people of Mwingi West for electing me as their Member of Parliament. Secondly, I stand in this House to congratulate Hon. Members who have been appointed to the Chairperson’s Panel. This Motion has made me happy because gender balance, competency and also experience of the Hon. Members appointed were considered. Based on that, I support it. view
