  • 9 Apr 2019 in Senate: I support the fight against corruption. I agree with the President that vigilante justice will not assist in fighting corruption. view
  • 9 Apr 2019 in Senate: Finally, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, the challenge to the agencies that fight corruption is that even as we fight corruption at the national level, our counties are joking with issues of graft. There is grand misuse of resources. We now want the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), which is mandated by the Constitution to fight corruption, to not only go to Samburu County where the Chair comes from, but to every county. If any governor or anybody has misused resources, they should not be spared. Ours is to ensure that they follow the law. Forgiveness belongs to God. If they ... view

  • 3 Apr 2019 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I commend the Chairperson of the Committee on Finance, Commerce and Budget for the timely provision of ensuring that we get real time updates on the spending of counties. We have problems when we try to question the current governors for relying on previously audited accounts that were done by their predecessors. Therefore, I hope that the Controller of Budget will avail the necessary information. It is said that information is power. Therefore, we will have an opportunity to have real time information that will help us to carry out proper oversight. Mr. Speaker, Sir, ... view
  • 3 Apr 2019 in Senate: behind such projects and pretending to be the ones who implemented national Government projects. Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Controller of Budget and the necessary Government agencies should tell us if there are projects that are done by both the county governments and the national Government in terms of costing. This will prevent our people from thinking that a particular project belongs to the county yet it belongs to the national Government and vice versa . Therefore, I thank the Committee and hope that it will share this information across the board and assist our county assemblies and their Members, who ... view
  • 3 Apr 2019 in Senate: I rise, pursuant to Standing Order No. 48 to seek a Statement from the Chairperson of the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. In the Statement, the Chairperson should:- (1) State whether he is aware that farmers in Kenya commonly use Roundup Herbicide in weeding their farms, yet it contains glyphosate, which is an active chemical ingredient which causes cancer. (2) Explain whether the Ministry, through the Pest Control Products Board, has done any research on the herbicide to caution farmers on the danger they are exposing themselves to with the continued use of the herbicide. (3) State whether preventive ... view
  • 3 Apr 2019 in Senate: (4) State what the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries in collaboration with the Ministry of Health will do to ensure minimum or no cause of alarm or panic from the Kenyan farmers as a result of the use of this harmful herbicide that has been proven to cause cancer by other countries such as the United States Of America (USA). Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. view
  • 2 Apr 2019 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like to commend Sen. (Dr.) Ali for that Statement. We know that food security is one of the Big Four Agenda--- view
  • 2 Apr 2019 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, food security is one of the pillars of the Big Four Agenda. It is important that the Jubilee Government has earmarked over 20 dams across the country. We need to look into the future because under Article 43 of the Constitution on Economic and Social rights, the right to clean and safe water is paramount. It is important that some of these projects are completed in time, so that our people can benefit. view
  • 2 Apr 2019 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, as we discuss about food security, we should look at water pans and small dams that we should construct, so that our people can irrigate their crops. Secondly, we can have clean and safe water for our people. I want to agree with Sen. (Dr.) Ali that going forward, the issue of food security should be given more weight in terms of ensuring that we have irrigation. This project should be completed in time so that our people benefit from it. We hope that in future, Wajir County will be food secure. We should not only rely ... view
