On climate change, I appreciate the efforts by the Government in afforestation and reforestation. This is so important because it will enable our country to be stable, reduce pollution and increase the forest cover, which will attract rain and make our country comfortable.

I was expecting the President to talk on more robust measures to curb insecurity, which is still a problem in our country. We have had abductions and other problems in Laikipia, West Pokot and Turkana. Robust Government measures should be put in place so that all Kenyans live in peace.

The President also mentioned the fact that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) could have solved some issues. I differ with him there. To solve the current problems, we do not necessarily need to change the Constitution. We need to fight corruption, emphasize and expand the democratic framework in our country. More so, we also need to preach peace and ensure that security is everywhere in our country so that as we head towards elections, all people will vote in peace. I appreciate all that took place yesterday. If all that I have mentioned was taken into consideration, I think the ...

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for also giving me this opportunity to support this Petition. It is quite unfair that Sawanga FM, has been shortchanged by Sidai FM. Media houses are so important in what they do and whenever they deviate from the same, the disaster is equal to what they could do very well to the society. I am always aware that the functions of the mainstream media are always to educate the society in whatever is happening. More often than not, on a weekly basis they also set the agenda that people normally discuss in terms of participating ...

Unless these media stations are fully controlled according to the law by the CAK, they can do more damaging things than good. I remember in 2007 during the post- election violence, most of the local radio stations were culprits of the same. The way they were broadcasting in an unprofessional way emotively raised suspicion and even encouraged the post-election violence. They must be regulated and controlled. For example, this one already has its frequencies overlapping with the frequency of another radio station. They can do grievous things whose burden will be transferred to another one that is not the victim. ...

Thank you, Mr. Speaker Sir. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.48 (1), to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare regarding claims of discrimination against locals on job opportunities by University of Bomet. In the Statement, the Committee should: Investigate claims of discrimination by the University administration regarding the sacking of the non-skilled locals who had been working as casuals since the inception of the University and have since been replaced by non-locals. 1. The Committee should state whether the recruitments at the Institution have met the criteria of regional and ethic balance as ...

Thank you Mr. Speaker Sir, for giving me this opportunity to strongly support this particular Petition from the people of Embu that has come through their hardworking Senator. As my fellow Senators have said, the NLC in country has failed to measure up to their duties. It is during this time in history that we are realizing that the Commission is so reckless to the point that they are many duplication of title deeds. Where I come from, it is unfortunate that you can get a plot today and tomorrow someone else has a title deed and you also have ...
