  • 12 Sep 2019 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, what is happening in South Africa should be condemned in the strongest terms possible. I would say it is primitive, Neanderthal, and barbaric. It is a reflection of our continent in a very negative way all over the world. Currently, countries all over the world are experiencing globalization. Every country is welcoming people from other countries because that is the only way you demonstrate to the whole world that you are civilized and going forward. We saw in the social media a lady being molested in the streets, stripped naked and beaten to death. That is totally ... view
  • 11 Sep 2019 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for also giving me the chance to make my comments on this. It is quite surprising to hear that a Level 4 hospital serving five wards and the neighboring counties has been closed just because of insecurity. It is very interesting that even today while the President was presiding over a passing out ceremony of more security personnel, we are still talking of insecurity in our country, including in the hospitals. I would like to call upon the Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government to take note of this. I think that the ... view
  • 11 Sep 2019 in Senate: It is very interesting that people who are sick cannot get treatment simply because of insecurity. A hospital is a facility that should be taken seriously and this is a devolved function to all of us. This is not just a matter that the Committee on Health should deal with. We should take this issue seriously. It is good that we shall be there next week. As Sen. Kilonzo said, all of us should take this issue very seriously. • 10 Sep 2019 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me this chance, although the Motion had come to an end. I support this important Motion that concerns our military personnel. These particular people play an important role in our country. They also sacrifice they lives and their families. This reminds me of one time, when there were many riots in our schools, and most of the students were burning schools. One of the findings of a particular body that was asked to conduct research on the causes and the type of students who were most prevalent in causing this problem, found that ... view
  • 10 Sep 2019 in Senate: culprits were children whose parents were either in the police or the military. We realised later on that these people live far away from their families. The parents arrive home as visitors, once every year for some few days. Therefore, the day to day discipline of their children and providing the father figure in their families was a great challenge. This particular concern should be taken seriously. We should also examine and revise the policies and legislation that are related to the service of these particular people. Their spouses also face a lot of challenges. They live in isolation and ... view

So that the structures in the armed forces are revised. Otherwise, most of them are still colonial and are not supportive to the armed forces. That is why when most of them retire, their homes are miserable. They become frustrated and they start to over-drink. They, therefore, need to be supported. The support services to these people are crucial. I, therefore, beg to support this important Motion. view
