  • 20 Aug 2024 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, let me also take this opportunity to support this Motion. Allow me to thank both committees of the two Houses, together with their Chairpersons; my friend Sen. Cheptumo and Hon. Tongoyo. Mr. Douglas Kanja has done a good job for this country for the past 39 years. He started as a police constable and rose through the ranks. He then served as a corporal before being a Senior Assistant IG. Now he has been nominated as the IG. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the nominee. • 20 Aug 2024 in Senate: Area Police Station, the way they live is not humane. How do you expect a police officer to work for the whole day and go back to those kinds of houses? That is terrible! I went to Ileretin in my county and visited police posts and police stations. The houses they live in were built in 1950s. I would like Mr. Kanja to visit Ileret, so that he can see how police officers live there and many other police stations. The other issue I would like to raise with Mr. Kanja, if he is approved, is about two Korean missionaries ... view

  • 14 Aug 2024 in Senate: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Let me also take this opportunity to oppose this Motion. We have had over 10 impeachment Motions for the last 10 years. Out of those, Governor Kawira Mwangaza is coming here for the third time. The first time the proceeding was done in a committee that was chaired by Sen. (Dr.) Khalwale. The second one was done in plenary. This should also be done in the plenary because Kenyans are looking at the Senate now, and we want to participate fully. I take this opportunity to completely disagree with the Senator for Nairobi ... view
  • 8 Aug 2024 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Let me first take this opportunity to congratulate the Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) who have been sworn in today. Secondly, the Senate Majority Leader has raised an issue here. I want to notify him as the Chairperson of the National Cohesion, Equal Opportunities and Regional Integration Committee, that we have already invited the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) today. We had a meeting with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) today. We have invited the Public Service Commission (PSC) who have asked for more time. Coming back to the statements, I want to contribute to ... view
  • 6 Aug 2024 in Senate: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Allow me to add my voice on the Petition by Sen. Miraj Abdullahi. Mr. Speaker, Sir, we have a problem in this country especially at the coastal region. There are historical land injustices. There are absentee landlords who have tortured residents, who have built houses on those parcels of land. Former coastal rulers who are referred to as tenant--- The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. • 6 Aug 2024 in Senate: Mr. Speaker Sir, let me request for my three minutes, starting from now, because I am getting into a new subject now. Let me now divert to the Statement by Sen. Hezena Lemaletian. Some time back we went to Rwanda, Kigali and I got a taxi. That taxi would not start to move because I did not put on my belt. The driver told me that I had to put my belt on, otherwise, he would be fined and jailed for two days. So, I obliged. I am saying this because it is the rule of law. If you go ... view
