  • 2 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: This Motion must go beyond milk to address issues of agriculture holistically. Although it talks about milk and how dairy farmers are being discouraged, the heart of it The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 2 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: is that we are making agriculture a less serious economic business. We are a food deficient country but we are still losing farmland to flower farming and real estate development. So, one must look at the depth and the breath of this Motion to think of how we can keep more people in farming since 80 per cent of our population is found in the rural areas. Twenty-five per cent of our GDP is from agriculture. So, if agriculture is not profitable, how do we keep this huge part of our population engaged? view

  • 25 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Chairlady, I decided to change my sitting position because the Chair is not catching my eye. What I wanted to say is exactly what the last speaker said. If we have 48 working hours, then we know that within that period, KRA can commit more manpower to that course in order to complete the task. view
  • 25 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. I just want to make a few comments on this. I think taxation is a serious matter, without making a political speech here. As legislators, we must say that taxes must be clearly spelt out so that entrepreneurs and investors should note that these are the taxes they must pay. • 25 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Secondly, without taxation we cannot grow the economy but that tax must go to all the deserving areas. Also, we must reduce corruption so that people are not taxed and the money goes down the drain. Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. view
  • 18 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I rise to support this important Motion. I come from a constituency that is covered by a national park and a game reserve. It has the only natural forest in northern Kenya. It has been conserved by generations and that is why it exists today. It is all because of the goodwill of the people of Saku. What we have experienced in not so many years are deaths and injuries of human beings, destruction of crops and killing of livestock by wild animals. This, however, has not put off my people in terms of conserving wildlife. ... view
  • 31 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. I wish to contribute to this very important Motion by hon. Njenga. The power of the youth in a constituency is core to this nation. I think investing in the youth is the only way that this country can move forward. When we do not invest in the youth, the thinking of Vision of 2030 will be just a pipe dream. I say that because when we say that the youth should be given soft loans, packages and others and yet you have not developed skills for them to ... view
  • 31 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, we should have youth polytechnics or technical institutes at the constituency level. It is important for us to see the constituency as the pinning ground because at the constituency level, we know the numbers that graduate from Standard Eight and also from Form Four. But what this Motion seeks is financial training in applied sciences. Actually, we also need the teachers more than anything else and the infrastructure for us to undertake skills development in our youth. view
  • 31 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, when we say that countries like Korea, Malaysia and others which began at the same level as our country in the 1950s have gone ahead, we need to realize that they have moved forward because they have invested in empowering the youth. They provide technical skills which are within villages and homes where people are able to come up with small gadgets which eventually form the industrial hub for those countries. view
