Before, it was only the international organisations which dealt with refugees and it became very difficult for Kenya even when it wanted to find out how many refugees it had because of lack of data. With this amendment, the Government of Kenya will have its own data. view

When we were scrutinising this Bill when it was brought by Aghostinho Neto, we thought that there are people who have been denied refugee status because of some security reasons. First, we only had 14 days and had to push for more days so that any aggrieved person might have an opportunity to be heard and explain themselves if they are denied that refugee status. When we were scrutinising this Bill when it was brought by Aghostinho Neto, we thought that there are people who have been denied refugee status because of some security reasons. One of those instances is when we passed the Wildlife Conservation Act and said that if somebody is killed by a wild animal, we are supposed to pay Kshs5 million and other compensation amounts for various injuries. It has never happened. This is not only the Committee. We have to advise other people. The aspect of getting a legal counsel to represent those people might not... Assuming that there are 100 of them who have been denied status, what happens? If you take an illegal person to be represented ... view
