Thank you very much Hon. Speaker for the opportunity. I stand to support. I also want to add my voice to the ones of other Members of this House who are here requesting for expedition of gazettement of these members of NG-CDF Boards and most importantly, also, the disbursement of funds to the NG-CDF accounts which is going to facilitate in the implementation of ongoing projects and also the beginning of new projects. As it stands now, it looks like one side of Government is moving way faster than the other. As we know, the results of the Kenya Certificate ...

shall be having our constituents knocking at our constituency office doors demanding for their bursaries, which is actually their right. As such, one arm of Government is moving way faster than the other one. Hon. Speaker, we all seek expedition of the gazettement of these members and a quick disbursement of these funds to our NG-CDF accounts. Thank you very much, Hon. Speaker.

Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I really appreciate this opportunity to rise and support the Copyright (Amendment) Bill, 2017 which in itself seeks to amend an Act of Parliament which is the Copyright Act, 2001. From the outset, I would like to note that entertainment and the creative economy in Kenya is a multi-billion shilling industry. As such, this Bill is very timely. We will all agree that ideas are going to become the currency of the new world. The new world belongs to men and women who will be coming up with great noble and exemplary ...

not limited to Kenya Association of Music Producers, performing arts lobby groups, stakeholders in the local film industry, and digital content producers – who are very critical. When you walk on the streets of Nairobi, you hear new lingua out there, with people talking about slay queens in this town. These are a creation of social media and digital platform content creation. Let me tell you, it is an industry that can grow with all the bloggers we have out there, who create amazing digital content online. What we need to do as a House is protect the ideas and ...

Thank you very much, Hon. Speaker. I would like to state at the outset that I support the expeditious passing of this Bill. We have an opportunity, as Parliament, to play our role in enhancing the functions of devolution in this country. Being an important organ of Government, as a standalone autonomous organ of the Government, we have the role to supporting the business of the counties and by extension according required services to our constituencies. More importantly, we recognise the situation we are coming from. As a country, we have had an extended period of campaigning and electioneering that ...

Hon. Speaker, it would not be in order for anybody to say that the national Government has been inequitably allocating resources to counties on the basis of the perception that some counties are national Government-friendly while others are not. There are many instruments in our Constitution that ensure national resources are equitably distributed amongst all the counties in this country. Even as we speak about this we also should, as Members of Parliament, put some little pressure on our devolved governments to see to it that those who have a role to play in collection of revenue do their work. ...

Hon. Speaker, I think we all agree that a quick passing of this Bill will enable some critical functions within the counties to resume as normal. I pray that we will not find ourselves in a situation of delay as we have in this time.

You will allow me to spend my last minute to put my voice in a discussion that has come up this afternoon. I note that some of the names that have been presented here by Members of the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition are of able leaders. They are people we know; people of integrity; people who we know mean well for this country but, it should not end there. We also have a Constitution that urges us to observe some rules. If they are not just constitutional rules, they are also humane rules. We should be seeking equity not ...

Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for this opportunity. I rise to support this Motion by Hon. Melly and for good reason. Before I support this Motion, if I am exhibiting any excitement, I would like to confess that it is a hangover coming from the inauguration yesterday. I am truly excited that we are getting back to order as a country. I would also want to mention that if my eyes are not failing me, the other side of the House is quite filling up. I see my friend Mheshimiwa Maanzo. And I do agree that we ...

Hon. Speaker, thank you very much. I want to join the nation in passing condolences on my behalf, on behalf of my family and on behalf of the people of Dagoretti South Constituency to the people of Nyeri on the loss of the Governor Dr. Wahome Gakuru, whom I happen to have personally known as he worked at the Vision 2030 Secretariat, and later on at the National AIDS Control Council, where he personally interviewed my wife and gave her an opportunity to serve at the Council. Later on, as Director of Strategy at Equity Bank, I worked closely with ...
