  • 14 Apr 2020 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, thank you very much for this opportunity. Allow me to speak on behalf of the population that I represent in this country, the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). I really want to thank the Committee for bringing this matter forward. I also thank the Government for this rare chance of bringing together a Covid-19 Emergency Fund that is going to look into vulnerable groups. Hon. Speaker, the over six million Kenyans with disabilities are really looking upon this Fund to feed and provide essential services for them. For a long time PWDs in this country have been neglected. The ... view

  • 11 Mar 2020 in National Assembly: that a majority of persons with disabilities face numerous challenges, including being denied their fundamental rights and freedoms including the right to education and opportunities to work, virtually guaranteeing that they will live their lives in poverty which often exacerbate their vulnerability and dependence on other people, assistive devices and critical medical items and requirements; deeply concerned that lack of these devices, medical items and requirements makes it impossible for persons with disabilities to live normal and dignified lives; this House urges the national Government to provide assistive devices and required medical items and requirements free of charge to persons ... view
  • 11 Mar 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me an opportunity to contribute to this Motion. Because of the debate that was heated in the Committee of the whole House, as I start, I want to thank the Chair. I understand that we have completed the business in the Committee of the whole House. We are now looking at the Report on the State of the Judiciary. Earlier on, I tried, but I did not get an opportunity to contribute. I find this Report useful. It indicates the critical role of restructuring the Judiciary and the place of the Judiciary ... view
  • 11 Mar 2020 in National Assembly: As I support the Report, I am encouraged, because the Report is clear that we provide sufficient funds to the Judiciary. As a House, we should allocate adequate resources to the 41 Government-funded projects that are at various stages of completion in order for them to be completed. I hope we will understand that representation is a matter of quality and relevant contribution, and not numbers by burdening the minority and special interest groups with guilt and shame. Thank you. view
  • 4 Mar 2020 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to really support the Bill. It is an honour that we are talking about this issue of looking at and dissecting the public service in this country. I thank Hon. Mwadime because he has brought this amendment at a time when this country is actually discussing the BBI. We want the BBI to also bring to us a breakdown so that we can understand it. When we are talking about inclusivity in the BBI, it must address the marginalisation of communities in this country in terms of ... view
  • 4 Mar 2020 in National Assembly: want to suggest this because every year the President of this country usually makes an annual state of the nation address in this House. I want to throw this to the President. When he is talking about equity in this country, he should actually also address the issue of employment of communities in this country. Where do the Tesos, Kurias and Njemps of this country fall when you are generalising communities in this country? The Public Service Commission has a responsibility. It should come to this House and explain to Members when we are talking about employability of communities in ... view
  • 4 Mar 2020 in National Assembly: marginalised. We have to ensure that we create mechanisms to bring the people who are left behind to be the first ones. That is why the public service must give an audit with regard to numbers and percentages of persons with disabilities who are employed in the ministries. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, we cannot talk about telling donors and Non- Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to ensure employability of persons living with disabilities (PWDs), when our own Government does not employ, train and empower them to work in offices. We must make things easier for PWDs to live in this country. That ... view
