10 Sep 2014 in National Assembly:
Thank you very much hon. Speaker. I am the County Member of Parliament for the County of Migori. I wish to take this platform to say that what transpired in Migori is unfortunate. I want to ask county leaders from my county to seriously re-look at the root causes of some of the things happening in our county. It is not about anything, but about us leaders sitting down to seriously address the issues that affect our county. Our young people need jobs; they do not need to throw stones and shoes. It is for that reason that, on behalf ...

10 Sep 2014 in National Assembly:
And the Subas. I long for a time when this Government will bring an affirmative action concerning regions so that when we talk of Nyanza Province having received four slots, we need to take into cognizance the fact that there is a Kuria, Luo and Kisii. I can attest to it here that Kuria East and Kuria West constituencies are very well represented in this Jubilee Government. The Member of Parliament for Kuria East belongs to KANU Party. The Member of Parliament of Kuria West is from URP. When it comes to appointments why does this Government leave the Kuria ...

20 Aug 2014 in National Assembly:
Thank you, hon. Speaker. From the outset, I wish to say that I support this Bill. This Bill has the best interest of our families at heart. It is unfortunate that every time we are talking about social issues, it appears in this House that it is a battle of the sexes. This is not a battle of the sexes. It is a battle of correcting where we have had injustices in the past. It is about putting measures and legal frameworks in place that are going to protect our families and our children’s families and generations to come. This ...

20 Aug 2014 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, I want to mention that we are protecting not only the females in this country, but also the males. It is apparent and common sense that when violence occurs in the House, it is not only violence against women. It is a fact that even in this House, there are distinguished Members in this House who are facing abuse, who are of the opposite gender. It is not that every time we have a Bill that is seeking to correct injustices, we have Members of the opposite gender up in arms. We need to look at the bigger ...

20 Aug 2014 in National Assembly:
communities in this country that are still practicing female genital mutilation. That is violence. That is a point that I find very strong in this Bill. There is nothing wrong in this Bill because it is seeking to put up shelters. We should look into issues of ensuring that in each county, we are instituting and coming up with temporary shelters where victims of abuse can stay temporarily. This Bill is seeking to ensure that victims of violence, whether male or female, access psycho-social and legal support. Those are some of the things that traditionally have not been there. Other ...

20 Aug 2014 in National Assembly:
Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. Allow me to support this very important Motion that seeks to sanitise the boda boda industry. In Migori County, every other young person is a boda boda operator. Those boda boda operators do not even own boda bodas that they ride. They are owned by some other tycoons who lease them out for work. For me, this Motion will try to look at how we can empower those young people. Every time we think about boda bodas, we think of academic dwarfs and people who have not gone to ...

20 Aug 2014 in National Assembly:
contribute a lot to this country. So, as we move on into the Second Reading, I wish to say that this is a very important Motion that needs a lot of support, so that our young people are able to eke a living with dignity from an industry that they will all love.

31 Jul 2014 in National Assembly:
Thank you, hon. Speaker. Allow me to also oppose this effort to reduce the publication period by four days. Kenyans out there place a lot of trust in this House. This noble House has become a House of procrastinators. We have timelines and guidelines within which to perform our roles. I do not see a reason why, with all due respect to the Chair of the CIOC, we need to reduce the number of days. We need to wake up as a House. Everybody has a lot of trust and expectations in this House. So, reducing the number of days ...

31 Jul 2014 in National Assembly:
We do not want to be passing Bills in this country that we are going to regret. Kenyans are looking at us and they want to see Members of this House mess and then laugh at it. So, with all due respect to the Chair of the CIOC, I wish to join my colleagues in opposing this effort to reduce the number of days.
