  • 18 Nov 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I would also wish to support this Bill because without paying taxes, we cannot function as a country. I am happy that everyone in Kenya is being taxed. Kenya is one of the highest taxed countries in the world. As MPs, we are taxed. Therefore, this is a timely Bill. We want our taxes to be used prudently. I also want to point out that there is something called illicit financial flows which include tax evasions by multinationals and big commercial entrepreneurs. In September this year, The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report ... view
  • 18 Nov 2015 in National Assembly: I read a story whereby Kenya is losing more than Kshs160 billion annually on this illicit financial flows and pricing transfer. So, this is where we want the Commissioner of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to deploy intelligence to net tax defaulters. Instead of over-taxing goods and Kenyans each year, we need to cast the net wider so that we do not lose money. Multinationals setting up business in Kenya--- view
  • 29 Oct 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. From the outset, I wish to state that this proposed Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill, 2015 seeks to amend various laws, including amending various sections of the National Police Service Act, 2011. These are Sections 10, 13, 17, 29 and 31 and other laws. Therefore, it is very clear that the Government is bringing changes to various laws. This will confuse Kenyans and bring a level of lack of confidence and trust. Our economy is already suffering and the financial sector is having big problems. Amending these various laws is going to cause panic. ... view
  • 29 Oct 2015 in National Assembly: You cannot give arbitrary powers to the President. Kenyans refused to have a President who is very powerful. We had this in the previous regimes of KANU under the Moi leadership and Kenyans voted for a new Constitution. One of the elements of the new Constitution is that we must have independent institutions. The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) must be independent, including the appointment of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Deputy Inspector-Generals. This proposed amendment that seeks to give the IGP the sole power to determine the distribution and deployment of officers in the service is not ... view

  • 29 Oct 2015 in National Assembly: In conclusion, I wish to say that the amendments fronted are actually unconstitutional and will thus be illegal. They seem to be aimed at having a powerful presidency that has all the security organs under its docket. There is need for fairness. view
