  • 23 Oct 2013 in Senate: The other one was sought by Sen. (Prof.) Lonyangapuo. He requested a Statement regarding withdrawal of security officers - the AOB as he says - who were seconded from the Prison’s Department to Parliament. The hon. Senator wanted to know whether--- view
  • 23 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I beg to continue. It is true that over the years, the Prisons Department has been seconding officers to provide protective security to VIPs and State officers, although this has not been a core mandate of the department. However, following the formulation of the Government policy on provision of protective security to VIPs and other State officers which came into effect on 1st July, 2013, the Prisons Department is not among the departments from which officers providing VIP protection are to be drawn. The provision of VIP security is the core mandate of the National ... view
  • 23 Oct 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I believe the Administration Police officers are part of the National Police Service in this country. So, if it is a concern by an individual Senator, then we can be able to address it. But, basically, the policy of the Government is that those who are supposed to provide VIP security services are officers of the National Police Service and it is very clear from the Statement. • 15 Oct 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, this is a weighty issue that requires some time for investigations to be done. I would request Sen. Sang and Sen. (Prof.) Anyang’-Nyong’o give us until Thursday next week to be able to provide that Statement. view
  • 8 Oct 2013 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would like to take this opportunity to second this Motion. First and foremost, this Motion is important to some of us who are from northern Kenya. If we do not rescue this situation, we will lose Kenyans to foreign countries. A research has been done and it is possible for these families to be vetted and we can verify whether they are Kenyans or not. We have the vetting structures in place in this country. The Government should take time to vet these families and ensure that they are issued with identity cards. The provisions ... view

  • 1 Oct 2013 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, the first point I want to make is that if we really want to think about development, then roads are very critical. At this level of development in our country, we really need to have roads in place. Where I come from, the issue of insecurity is of great concern. If there are no roads, it is normally hard to track the attackers and it is also hard to access those who have been attacked in those areas. So, it is important for us to have these services transferred to the county governments so as to ... view

  • 24 Sep 2013 in Senate: to all the malls in this country, they are either closed or the security is very tight. But after the dust settles, it will be business as usual. I think we should tighten our security and be on alert at all times. Thank you. view
