  • 5 May 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I wish to congratulate these petitioners from Narok. As my colleagues have said, this is a matter that is happening in most counties. Unfortunately, even if members of the public raise these issues, they do not find a solution. Is money changing hands within the relevant institutions? Somebody needs to explain. I have a very good example and a Statement on it; I do not know whether you will allow me. There is a matter that has hit the social media in my county concerning the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Some youths have raised an ... view
  • 5 May 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I wish to support this Statement. We, as a country, have done so badly in terms of evictions. I do sympathise with the Committee on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources in this House despite the fact that the Chairperson is active and vibrant on so many lands issues that are brought to this House. Do we not have legislations and regulations in terms of how evictions are conducted? It looks like some people are violating the rights of individuals and legislations. People are evicted left, right and centre. Evictions are done in favour of the ... view
  • 5 May 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, mine will be brief. As I support this Statement, I really sympathise with the people of Kisumu County. It is pathetic that year in, year out, we talk of floods and droughts. Whenever it rains, we run around saying that we have floods. When the rains go, we run around saying that we have drought. We do not even have a strategy as a country. We should be harvesting the rainwater that is causing havoc. I have a similar situation in my county. The people of Iresaboru and Gaharsa are experiencing floods. Those poor people do not ... view
  • 21 Apr 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to lay the following Papers on the Table of the Senate today, Tuesday, 21st April, 2020- view
  • 21 Apr 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank Sen. Wambua for bringing this Statement because Kenyans are facing a lot of challenges. It is important for the Government agencies to consider certain things while coming up with measures that are meant to help curb the spread of COVID-19. I applaud the Government and the CS, Ministry of Health for the measures they have put in place because many Kenyans are benefitting from them. The spread of COVID-19 has been cut down. Secondly, we need to consider the dynamics of the counties before putting up roadblocks. Some of the roadblocks that have been set ... view

  • 21 Apr 2020 in Senate: place called Garbatula. If people are not advised and movement checked properly, there will be many inter-county infections. I understand that the Committee has its plate full, but I hope that they can look into the issues that are pertinent. I thank you. view
  • 14 Apr 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I wish to join my colleagues in congratulating the work of this Committee on Finance and Budget which was chaired by the Senator for Mandera. The purpose of the Senate in this country and for what we do in this House is to hold counties accountable when money is allocated to them. That has been our primary responsibility even though we have had issues between ourselves and the county assemblies where the county assemblies usually say that they have the responsibility of oversight and not the Senate. I think that for the last seven years that I ... view
  • 14 Apr 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, there is a lot that is going on in the counties, especially now that COVID-19 disease has come in. It looks like people are now avoiding procedures in the name of emergency. I wish that we had contributed to the Statement brought by Sen. (Dr.) Kabaka because that is happening in most of the counties. This morning I was called by members of staff from my county informing me that up to date, they have not received their salaries. Today is 14th February, 2020. They have rent to pay, food to buy for their families and you ... view
  • 31 Mar 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I wish to reply. It is unfortunate that we did not have time to contribute to this important Motion. Kenyans are watching and are excited. However, time does not allow us. This Committee has a lot of work to be done. It is not just looking at the extent or the problem of COVID-19 or strategies employed. There is a bigger problem in this country that we need to look at. There are donors contributing money and the Government is putting in a lot of money. It is important for the Committee to sit with ... view
