  • 5 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir for giving me this chance to say one or two things about the Vote of this Ministry. At the outset, I would like to say that I commend the Minister and his team for the work they have done so far, although there are a number of areas they would have done better. I would like to start off by talking about the Eldoret International Airport. Eldoret International Airport was in the news at the beginning of this Government's tenure when it was closed for sometime. At that time, it was said that ... view

  • 29 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. My Ministry has no immediate plans to upgrade Mtwapa Dispensary to a subdistrict hospital due to the following reasons:- (a) The acreage of land available is not sufficient because the land available is only 0.344 hectares. (b) The physical infrastructure is inadequate. The dispensary is housed in a four-roomed building which was put up by DANIDA. (c) Staffing level is that of a dispensary. (d) As it is well-known, we normally upgrade facilities from a dispensary to a health centre and then to a hospital. However, at the moment, the facility offers ... view
  • 29 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, we are aware that the population has increased. In fact, according to our figures, the population now stands at slightly less than 37,000 people. During this financial year, the Ministry is going to allocate Ksh1 million to this dispensary to put up a maternity unit. view
  • 29 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I think sometimes we do not follow answers to Questions in this House and then end up talking at cross purposes. The facility that we are talking about is a dispensary and not a health centre. view
  • 29 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, that is the direction we are going. This is one of the facilities that we are soon going to upgrade to a health centre. Then after that, we shall consider whether it can be upgraded to the level of a subdistrict hospital. view
  • 23 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, about two weeks ago, we answered this Question substantially up to the end. The only thing that was remaining was for us to get the number of nurses, who have been posted to the constituencies. We are having a bit of a problem with this because we post our nurses to districts and not to constituencies. view
  • 23 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, what I am suggesting is this: As a Government, we do not recognise constituencies as units of operation. What I was going to ask the hon. Member is for him to accept the information that was given for districts; we provided it last time. view
  • 23 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, actually the other problems that we have in the Ministry--- We have pointed out one; the second one is that nurses are posted to districts. So, it the responsibility of the Medical Officer of Health to distribute the nurses to the various health facilities within his or her district. view
  • 23 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I think, for Yatta, we can do that. We can actually send somebody to count them one by one and find out. I think you need to give us time. Give me until next week and I can bring that information. view
