  • 4 Mar 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for the three minutes. I want to join you and my colleagues to support this Petition from Dr. Mugo and Mr. Njiraini. I want to say two things; one, when I look at this Petition, the first port of call for me would be to look at the curriculum being offered at AHITI. We should also look at its relevance to present day challenges facing livestock farmers in this country. It would be appreciated that we are developing new breeds of livestock and encountering new diseases affecting our livestock every now and then. It would ... view

  • 4 Mar 2020 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I rise to second the Motion on the extension of the mandate of the Ad Hoc Committee on MES. I do not wish to belabour the point because my Chairperson has ably moved the Motion. I only have just two things. The first one is that the things that the Committee is coming across in this project are mind boggling. It will be important for this country to get the full details of exactly what transpired and who was involved in doing what. Like the Chairperson has said, every day that we meet witnesses, we get more ... view
  • 4 Mar 2020 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I am properly guided. However, if Sen. M. Kajwang’ had just given me a minute, the reference was not on the substance of the proceedings of the Committee, but the reason why it needs an extension. However, I am properly guided. • 4 Mar 2020 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, we have already done a draft of the information that we are receiving, but there is need for us to get more documents from Government offices, which are becoming critical as we continue meeting other people. The last visit that we made confirmed the fears that we have had in the country. During the county visits, we found equipment lying in boxes and not being used. The original manufacturers of the same equipment confirmed that some of the equipment that is supposed to be at Meru Hospital is still with the manufacturer, yet the information that the ... view
  • 20 Feb 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. When I was preparing to come for the morning session with the Cabinet Secretary (CS), I had received information that he had dispatched two Principal Secretaries to represent him. By the time I was getting into the Chamber, I saw a letter saying that he was not going to attend and the Principal Secretaries would also not attend the session. The reason given was that the CS was attending a committee meeting of the Cabinet to prepare for a summit. What a shame that as the country suffers a serious invasion of locusts, a matter ... view

  • 20 Feb 2020 in Senate: It is a terrible thing. I want to ask you, as I join my colleagues, that the Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Munya, can buy time if he wants to do so. However, whatever he does, he must know that this is not about him, but this country. This is not about the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries; it is about our people, it is about all of us. The least that I would have expected the Cabinet Secretary and the Government to do is to facilitate local manufacturers of pesticides to manufacture pesticides to deal with and combat the spread ... view
  • 19 Feb 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank you. I will try to say as much as I can in two minutes. I would like to thank Sen. Kasanga and Sen. Kwamboka for bringing this Statement. It will be remembered that when the first incident of Corona Virus was reported, China put up two fully furnished hospitals in 12 days to deal with the crisis, although they are now clearly overwhelmed. We need to tighten our surveillance in all border entry points, to ensure that anyone coming into the country, whether from China or any other part of the world, are properly screened. ... view
