  • 21 May 2024 in Senate: It is a matter in the public domain that there is contestation on the interpretation of Article 110(3) of the Constitution. I find it extremely pretentious of the National Assembly to purport to resolve that matter through a Bill, which is very partisan to interpret what Article 110 means for both Houses of Parliament. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I have listened to Sen. Orwoba make a presentation. I want to say two things about the presentation made by her. One, I agree with her that, perhaps, it is time to reflect as a House because we have endured blow after ... view

  • 21 May 2024 in Senate: stages, only for somebody in the National Assembly to adopt. That should never be allowed. Since I want to give some time to Sen. Tobiko to also contribute, allow me to say these two last things. One, as a leader in this House, I will be having a conversation with my side on how going forward, we are going to be treating Joint Sittings of Parliament. I hope the leaders on the other side will also have a conversation with Members on their side. In those Joint Sittings, we will insist that the Speakers of both Houses preside over those ... view
  • 9 May 2024 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I stand in full support and in solidarity with the sentiments expressed by the Senator for Kakamega. It is literally a dark day in this Parliament and the country. It is unfortunate that on a day like this when the Senator for Kitui and the Deputy Minority Leader has received a delegation from his office in Kitui, there is pitch darkness in the House. view
  • 9 May 2024 in Senate: Sen. Sifuna has a problem seeing me. They can only hear, but not see me because I am dark. Is it in order that this sitting must continue this way? My appeal to you is that you adjourn this House until we get confirmation from the management of this House that we are going to get sufficient light, so that Senators can also see the Senator for Kitui as he addresses the House. I submit. view

  • 9 May 2024 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I do not know why the Senate Majority Leader is so excited about visitors from my office. I take this opportunity to join you and my colleagues. I am equally excited by the excitement among my colleagues, especially Sen. Kinyua. At some point, he was unsure whether I would be attending a function that I have later in the evening. However, when he saw the delegation, he came to me and said he wanted to be there. I can see how happy the Senate Majority Leader is. The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for ... view
  • 9 May 2024 in Senate: These members of staff from my office have come here to see what we do in this House. These are the people that have caused my election twice. These are the people who have stood with me in good and bad times. I am very happy that they are here to witness the work that we do on the floor of the Senate. On behalf of the Senate of the Republic of Kenya, I welcome them and wish them a fruitful visit in this Senate. I thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. view
  • 8 May 2024 in Senate: I thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I wish the Cabinet Secretary and his department well as they try to establish a nexus between this crime and those people they are saying have not been netted yet. Mine is a related question and a request to the Cabinet Secretary. Mr. Speaker, Sir, remember, yesterday on the Floor of this House, I brought the matter of the seven Kenyans from Kitui who were murdered in a terror attack in Mandera on 29th April. The bodies of those Kenyans are lying at the City Mortuary and four are admitted at the Kenyatta National ... view
  • 8 May 2024 in Senate: burial expenses and body reconstruction for those who were blown up to pieces by the blast. As I mentioned yesterday, all of them are neighbours of the Cabinet Secretary. Of course, he is a national Government official. The seven of them come from Mwingi West and Mwingi Central constituencies. Can the Cabinet Secretary make an undertaking that he will facilitate the taking care of the bills for those people that have been blasted in that attack? view
