Fatuma Ibrahim Ali

Fatuma credits her success to her grandmother who took her to school after her parents separated. She chose to study Agriculture as she believes that only agriculture could alleviate poverty in food insecure Wajir County. Her work at UN Women exposed her to the challenges women face daily, physically and mentally. In 2003 she was appointed a commissioner to the Kenya National Commission for Human Rights (KNCHR) and spearheaded the release of a report faulting the government’s IDP’s resettlement exercise (Operation Rudi Nyumbani). Fatuma is passionate about girl child education and seeks to ensure none of the girls in Wajir lacks education due to financial constraints.

  • 6 Aug 2015 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, you used some of my minutes. However, I want to conclude by saying that policies are very important, but implementation is more crucial. The culture of not implementing reports from institutions that contribute to GJLOS will not achieve much for us. The policy is necessary as a starting point in terms of strengthening GJLOS. view
  • 5 Aug 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I stand to support the Bill. This is relatively a straight forward amendment. It is a simple matter of changing the date from August to December. I commend Hon. Ochieng for fast-tracking this kind of amendment. We are used to last minute amendments which cause a lot of confusion. Last week, I was in Nyeri and Isiolo counties for public hearings and overwhelmingly, Kenyans said that the December date, which is being proposed, is the most appropriate and ideal date. This is a group of people who are against a certain region. There is xenophobia in this House. I oppose the amendment. I think it is being driven by Western and Nyanza regions. They are targeting communities who are marginalised and minorities in this country. view

  • 2 Jul 2015 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady, I am a bit disturbed because they are making the House a bit tired. This issue of changing “Board” to “Authority” and “Authority” to “Board” are not helping. I do not know the secret of using “Board” instead of “Authority.” view
  • 2 Jul 2015 in National Assembly: Most Members who are here belong to the Departmental Committee on Environment and Natural Resources but I am not a member. I am wondering why the county government has the mandate and the function to provide water to the public. I do not know why they are being removed and yet this provision is directly at the county level. I wanted to understand that because some of the amendments might prevent the county governments from adhering to the strict provision of quality water. view
