Fatuma Ibrahim Ali

Fatuma credits her success to her grandmother who took her to school after her parents separated. She chose to study Agriculture as she believes that only agriculture could alleviate poverty in food insecure Wajir County. Her work at UN Women exposed her to the challenges women face daily, physically and mentally. In 2003 she was appointed a commissioner to the Kenya National Commission for Human Rights (KNCHR) and spearheaded the release of a report faulting the government’s IDP’s resettlement exercise (Operation Rudi Nyumbani). Fatuma is passionate about girl child education and seeks to ensure none of the girls in Wajir lacks education due to financial constraints.

  • 3 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. My points were very comprehensive. I want to refer the Member to the advice of the Attorney- General that I have referred to. The Attorney-General is the Principal Legal Advisor to the Government. This includes the former Government and the current Government. view
  • 3 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: If this Government was committed to the rule of law, it should have directly taken in the advice of the Principal Legal Advisor who is the Attorney-General. I think the letter of the Attorney-General is very clear that he has advised the Government that the appointment of the remaining position of commissioners to the TSC should be done; that is in terms of referring to the list of the panel which I have referred to. I want to refer the hon. Member to that Report which clearly states that. view
  • 3 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, in conclusion, I request this Parliament to bring sanity to this country because we totally disregard laws and advice from legal statutory offices including institutions, commissions and the Attorney-General’s office. This case is a miscarriage of justice. This is because people who have been in office as commissioners are out of the job which they rightly qualified to be appointed. view

  • 12 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: National Youth Policy. In the absence of that, the policy is dormant, ineffective and it will not benefit the large majority of this country. Paralyzing this Council means killing the expectations, hopes and focus of the youth of this country. This country, it is unfortunate, creates laws--- This law was enacted in December, 2009, but up to now, there has been no single resource allocated to the National Youth Council. This means that the structures that were supposed to be put in place are still not there. Imagine if this Parliament did not have a functioning Parliamentary Service Commission. There ... view
