I want to declare that I was a businessman before I became a Member of Parliament. In the interest of our country, this Bill has come at the right time. • 17 May 2017 in National Assembly: At one stage, we encouraged Kenyans to consume local products. There was this slogan saying “Buy Kenya, Build Kenya.” That again disappeared. We are now importing, for example, basic food products like maize and sugar. It is just because we are careless as a country. I must admit we have been careless as a country. One, we import the inputs of these products too late and yet most of the time, we rely on rains. Our agriculture is basically rain-fed. Therefore, the time of importation has been an issue. Let us have a specific agent to check on some of these imports in the interest of the development and the future of Kenya that you and I love. I want to take this opportunity to contribute to this Bill which the President signed sometime in 2014. I think there has been a delay. This Bill should have come earlier because there has been a delay. Nairobi is one of the best cities in the region and, therefore, establishing Nairobi International Financial Centre here is a bit late. We should have done this much earlier.
