Florence was at one point the vice chairperson of Law Society of Kenya (LSK). During her campaigns she overcame all odds to win against the strong Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) wave in her backyard. The impetus to seek a platform to represent the people of Meru was created by the pro bono cases she undertook in the years she practiced law in Meru.

Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, as it has been said, we are around 150 million people within EAC. It is, therefore, very important that, at the beginning, we harmonise the integration process through the various Bills that have been brought. I am happy to report that this being our first Bill from the Regional Integration Committee, it has received 100 per cent support. I pray that today, we stand up as East Africans, support The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. these Bills and our Members within EALA and encourage them to ensure that they move into all the other aspects that affect us as East Africans, and be able to bring other legislations, so that we can harmonise not just the Bills that are before this House today, but also other Bills that affect other aspects of life within EAC.

Since we have already satisfied with the Customs Union Protocol, the Common Market Protocol and the Monetary Union, and we intend to move towards a political federation; this is important because it will give us the stepping stone towards the complete establishment of EAC.

On a point of order, hon. Deputy Speaker. I beg that the Chair uses her powers. Reading the mood of the House and the contributions that have been made so far, there is consensus that this is a Bill that does not have any major opposing issues and we reduce the time so that each one of us can, at least, contribute to the debate by giving us five minutes each. That way, we can give more valuable ideas to this Bill. I request the House that we reduce the debating time to five minutes because we are also running ...

Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. I rise to support the Division of Revenue Bill as drafted and presented before this House. One of the reasons why I support this Bill is because it has granted our county governments 43 per cent of the national revenue, which is a great improvement from the last allocation that we gave to the county governments. As women, one of the key issues that we are concerned about is the issue of hospitals. We have seen that resources have been allocated to Level 5 hospitals to ensure that they are well stocked, taken care of ...

Hon. Deputy Speaker, the reason as to why we are passionate about the Macadamia nuts is this: Over and above the miraa growing in Meru, the next biggest market that we have is Macadamia. I am informed by my colleague, hon. Kathuri Murungi, that the best Macadamia nuts in Kenya come from Meru County. When you talk about stakeholders in the Macadamia marketing, who are those stakeholders? We know that in Meru County, there are a number of Macadamia growers who have never been consulted and yet, the Constitution talks about public participation. As they fix a price other than ...

Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. I support the amendment that has been moved by hon. Wanga, and state that it is important to play our critical role of representation by way of connecting with our people. It is clear that if we go for the recess as stipulated in our calendar, then we will not have sufficient time to connect with our people. Most importantly as a practising Catholic, I say that this is a time that is very important to me in the sense that this is when Jesus Christ died on the cross and resurrected, and I need ...
